This is in an unlikeley location for a really good bbq joint (near the gallereria inside the loop). Being a student of both bbq joints and making bbq of all kinds, this placed surprised me. The ribs are very meaty and must be slow smoked for days to come out so good with fat rendered out of them. The sausage, chicken and turkey are all quite tasty too. If you rate your bbq on brisket, I only give these guys a B+ though. Don't take my word for it, let the people speak....case in point if you do not get there before 11AM for lunch, the line is out the door. Sauce (usually not noteworthy in most places) is unique and tasty. The chains like Pappas or Goode can't touch this!

Pros: Real Texas BBQ

Cons: Limited seating

Eaten there a couple of times. Not noteworthy. Living off the great reputation of the real BBQ joints near the real Lulling and west. Pass on this one. Go to William's Smoke House or to the Swinging door, or better yet, take a short trip west and get some real BBQ rather than this substandard want-to-be stuff.

Pros: A poor imitation want to be.... No pro here unless you maybe count distance to real Q.

Cons: Poor imitation want to be. Pass

My husband and I favorite BBQ place is Salt Lick (Driftwood/Austin area). This is our baseline for all BBQ places we try. Unfortunately, this place is a bust. My brisket was very dry and my husband was a little more moist only because he has lots more fat. We would never go here again. I agree with other reviewers, drive out of town to get good BBQ. So far, we can't find any good BBQ place in Houston. We tried other places too (Goode, Pappas, Luthers), all not up to par.

Cons: BBQ is not good, sides are not good

We were actually going to Bayou City for lunch, which we love, but when we smelled the BBQ we thought "why not?" I had never been here and I always heard it was really good. I'll never return! I had the potato salad and a sliced beef sandwich. The salad was so bland, the meat was dry and the bread was rock hard! I asked if I could add some slices of sausage to my sandwich and they said no! I had to buy the whole link which he didnt bother to slice! It definitely wasn't worth it! It was mushy and greasy. My friend had the ribs which he said were ok. Also, they are WAY overpriced! I didnt intend on spending $28 for a sandwich, salad, 3 ribs and 2 drinks! Goode Co. is still the best in town thats for sure! I'll never go back to this place again!

I am sort of bias, it is not the best I have had because I believe that belongs to the Luling City Market in Luling. I lived in Sequin for 7-years and at least once a month would go over to Luling for lunch (being sure to take an extra shirt that day to change into afterwards, because after exiting the smoke room your cloths are saturated with BBQ smoke flavor, its TERRIFIC!)...However, I have now lived in Houston for 4-years and eating at the one on Richmond Ave the food to me is just as delicious to that in Luling (less the smoke room ambiance). You see I am a sausage lover (and would take sausage over brisket any day)...there is nothing better than placing a slice of sausage in a piece of pure white bread, then pouring the sauce on it for every bite and dringking it down with a cold Shiner. Love the sauce. If you don't like the BBQ at the City Market just leave Texas as we don't want you here...

Great Ribs and BBQ sauce with a little kick, that's what I'm talkin' about... Somebody send Rachael Ray an e-mail to come on down to Texas for some real food. She'll be able to leave the fake smile at home when she wraps her lips around some of this Texas sausage!!! Luling City Market is one of my all time favorites!!! You gotta try it out...

Pros: Great BBQ Sauce, Great Food

Cons: On RIchmond, bit of a drive for me...

There is nothing out there like City Market. It is more than fabulous BBQ, the ambiance is one of a kind! I grew up on City Market food, and now that I am living in California, I send for it, and every time anyone in my family goes home, they are REQUIRED to bring some back! Love it1111

wow what a huge disappointment!! the place is old and thats ok, but almost on the dirty side! paper not a problem, I'm from texas so I do understand thats not out of the norm.....sausage was so greasy that it almost makes you sick.....sides are small(and not very good) too expensive for what you get! thats ok, I really don't compain about much,BUT the people there are so RUDE!! how do you stay in business?? If your heading to luling via I-10 stop at Mikeska"s or go alittle futher west on I-10 and stop at Fishbeck"s at least neither one of these places will turn off the light on you, or take your condiments while you still eating, or make you feel your bothering them two minutes after they stop serving....better yet just keep on 80 and go to lockhart.....good b-b-q, and they appreciate your business!!

Pros: ?????

Cons: rude people!!

Easy to get in and get out, I love the sauce, my favorite thing to do is get a link of sausage and slice it up and but on a slice of bread with lots of sauce. This place also has a very steady bar crowd with lots of regulars. Sausage, brisket, and ribs are all very good with lots of flavor. I have never tried there sides or other meats.

Pros: Sauce

We were looking for a BBQ place in the area, and we thought, from the reviews, that this place would be ok. The food, at best, is average. It's also ridiculously overpriced. We paid just shy of 14 dollars for a smallish brisket sandwich, potato salad, a sausage link, a soda, and 3 pickle spears. Yes, that's right, they charged us for pickle spears. Also, they were out of chopped beef when we went, which was an immediate let down, as that's what I really wanted. Additonally, they don't serve any kind of baked potato, which is pretty much a staple of a BBQ place as far as I'm concerned. It should also be noted that they don't serve food on plates. They give you what is essentially this brown piece of construction paper, and place your food on top of a tissue paper-like piece of paper on top of it. This is ok if you're just having a sandwich, but, God forbid you have to slice your sausage link or something. This place was definitely a let down, and we will NOT be back to waste more money. Also, it should be noted that, when you walk in, there's no one there to tell you if you have to wait to be seated or seat yourself. As a heads up, you have to walk toward the back, then go through their little buffet thing.

Pros: None.

Cons: EXTREMELY expensive, lack of choices.
