Zoning in for Good Sushi!

by JudyTTexas at Citysearch

I love the Sushi Zone and am a regular. The staff are always friendly and accommodating! In regards to the mention of "Hispanics", my conversation with one of the "Hispanic" chefs told of how there was so much to learn and was learning from the Master..."Japanese" chef. I felt a sense of pride, committment and dedication to learn the craft.

The Sushi is "always" fresh; my most favorite is the Volcano Roll and Fiesta Roll. The atmosphere is pleasant and cozy. I higly recommend a visit to the Sushi Zone! You will not be disappointed!

....as a matter of fact, just writing about this makes me hungry...I'm headed over there now! HA!

  • Pros: Seating, Service, "Sushi"...
  • Cons: I didn't see you there! ;)

My Favorite for Sushi

by martbell at Citysearch

The sushi is excellent at sushi zone, and as good as any other. That's the bottom line. If is bothers you that some of the chefs are Hispanic, then get over it or eat with your eyes closed. Speaking of the chefs, they are all quite personal. Sushi zone also has the most competitive prices of any place I've been to.

Great sushi, reasonable prices, experienced staff & chefs. A winner! Closed 2:30p to 5:30p

After reading the previous reviews, I actually signed up with citysearch just now for the express reason of refuting the bad reviewers. I have been going to Sushi Zone for almost as long as they have been in business, over 7 years. I know the owner (his son used to go to school with my son) and I know the restaurant. The sushi has always been top notch. The place is nice and clean and THE CHEFS ARE NOT ALL HISPANIC. The owner is Japanese (I beleive) and is always there as the head chef. He has owned many restaurants in his life. The food is always fresh and very good. The rolls are wonderful and imaginative. I have been to sushi restaurants around the DF/W area and in New York, San Francisco and Seattle. Sushi Zone doesn't have the flash of the higher end places but the quality is comparable. The wait staff doesn't change often and neither do the chefs. This is just a casual small sushi place with a laid-back Japanese atmosphere.

I don't know why the other reviewers were so turned off but I have always enjoyed the food and the only negative I can come up with is the fact that they are closed from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. The prices are reasonable and the food is great. Enjoy the place and don't be put off by the other reviews!

  • Pros: Food is great, Prices are reasonable, atmosphere not too trendy or stuffy
  • Cons: Closed 2:30p to 5:30p

Sushi Zone

by weknowsushi at Citysearch

Sushi Zone is not worth even a peek.. My first clue was as we walked in a Caucasian man with a large belly wearing and old Polo shirt sat us at the sushi bar.

After I got past the appearance of the door man, I looked at the Sushi chiefs behind the bar and observed three Hispanic ?Chefs?. This was BIG clue number two.

The sushi was not very tasty or the traditional ingredients. The only roll I thought was worth anything was the fiesta roll. Go figure they were Hispanic!!

Never again, strongly NOT recomended

The best sushi!

by metalsyn at Citysearch

I don't why the last person has a problem with Sushi Zone's rainbow roll. I've been a regular at this place for almost 5 years and it has always been excellent! The rainbow roll is one of my favorites. It's large, generous, and very fresh. California roll underneath?? Please!

The service is friendly and top-notch. It's great for a for a romantic dinner for two, or bring the whole family. My kids love it. But the best part is the sushi. The rainbow and the mudbug roll come highly recommended.. Or, do what we sometimes do- close your eyes and pick one! You can't lose.

  • Pros: Taste, Service, Fair prices
  • Cons: Closed on Sundays

not up to par

by vinoridergal at Citysearch

After waiting an long time for a slow time of the day (1:40PM), the host told me they had messed up my order and had to redo a couple of rolls. I look at my Rainbow, Philadelphia, and Cowboy rolls ($28). The Philadelphia roll was loosely rolled and the rice dry and tasteless. For the Cowboy, it had a mushy cucumber or zucchini. It was also made with shrimp and imitation crab, which was way too dry. The Rainbow was the most disappointing. It is supposed to be made with a California (rice, crab, cucumber, avacado) underneath. It was a tiny roll filled with rice and and crab only! Stacked on top of it were slices of salmon and tuna nearly .5" thick - Way too big for a roll that size. I'll have to reconsider going back to give them a chance to redeem themselves.
