A diffrent level!

by darrenbiggs at Citysearch

If you havent been here your simply wasting your money anywhere else. This is a wonderful place to go enjoy the atmosphere and enjoy the LARGEST wine list around!

  • Pros: From the bread, the sauce, and the wine all the best!
  • Cons: What are the drawbacks?

VERY VERY VERY VERY Good!

by pdxplm at Citysearch

We had read the reviews of our old fav in Salem, and apparently they went downhill. Found Da Vinci's and was really impressed with the reviews. Just make sure when you go to their website you go to www.davincisofsalem The one on this website takes you to NYC! The food was phenominal, the service excellent. Was really impressed with the waitstaff and just overall atmosphere....

  • Pros: Food, waitstaff, atmosphere
  • Cons: none

Fun Night Out

by palateprincess at Citysearch

My first time at DaVinci's. Overall, a good experience. My partner and I enjoyed the atmosphere very much. Definitely a good place for a romantic dinner. Good place for conversation and privacy, too. Even though it was busy when we were there, it felt private.

We ordered drinks and dinner. I am definitely particular about wine and drinks and not one usually for fruity mixed drinks as they are always too sweet. But I felt I had to share this because I've been telling all my friends....I took a risk and ordered a Cosmo from the bar and it was probably the best one I've ever had! I've tried to duplicate it at home with no such luck. Bravissimo to the bartender!

The food was good. Very fresh...I really enjoyed the use of the whole roasted garlic cloves. I was in heaven! We also perused the wine list and found the selection suitable to all palates. We will surely be back to try another bottle. Service was good. I liked that our server was not over attentive. Any more interruptions would have ruined the romantic, private dining atmosphere. I will surely be back again.

Best Restaurant in Salem

by winelover47 at Citysearch

This is my favorite restaurant in town. The have a fantastic menu. Not only do they try to support local farmers they also import some of the most fabulous cheese. You must try the Caprese salad. They have a killer wine list. Make sure to ask for the reserve list, because they don't always give it out. The service is casual but accomodating. The atmosphere is relaxing and elegant. And to top it off they have Jazz on Thursday and Saturday nights.

I am from San Diego and I have to say it was such a relief to find Davinci's, no other restaurant in town comes close to giving such an urban offering. Hats off to these guys. I will definitely be back.

  • Pros: Extensive wine list, great menu, helpful staff
  • Cons: A little expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for

Have been there several times. Great food and service. Also enjoy the wine bar area..for lighter meals before 6pm. Salem does not have any other place like this!

Give it a try. ..as i'm a stickler for good service...and its been there for me and my friends.

The food is very good and a well rounded selection.

Enjoy

Best Restaurant/Italian in Salem!

by crystalnlewis at Citysearch

I often use citysearch to look up restaurants, bars, hotels when traveling out of town and although I don't completely rely on the reviews, they do assist in my decision. I rarely look up Salem establishments since I've been a long time resident but wanted to see what was said about Davinci's. It really surprised me how negative the last two reviews were.

We've been huge fans of Davinci's for years. We don't get out all that much with two young children, but when we do Davinci's is where we want to go. In a town full of chain and poor restaurant options we feel this is Salem's shining star. The service has always been fabulous...we've even had the pleasure of getting to know some of the staff. And for the food, it's spectacular. Always consistant. Always fresh. We always order multipule appetizers having trouble choosing just one, they really all are so good. Try the escargot! So are the salads, they have a great selection. The pasta and entree sections of the menu are both phenomenal. I'm always happy with any of the fish or shell fish items. My husband is a big red meat fan and loves the New York steak. And the desserts are to die for!

If you are into wine they have a great wine list including 100 different wines by the glass. No other restaurant in Salem can even compare to that!

I could go on and on about everything I love about Davinci's. Give it a try if you haven't been there before, and give them another try if you've had a bad experience. Unfortunately it seems that people remember and comment on the bad before they'll comment on the good.

  • Pros: Food, Wine, Service, Ambience
  • Cons: None!

Stay Home Instead

by mypetviola at Citysearch

My husband and I were really looking forward to eating at DaVinci's, as we like to try new restaurants.

I am disappointed to say that the service was poor. The waitress never brought us any of the complementary bread that she said they offered. When our food arrived, it was cold. My husband ordered the scallop and truffle pasta and I had the gnocchi gorgonzola. Both were unimpressive, congealed and bland. Someone else in our party ordered a caesar salad and when it came out, it was the saddest looking salad I've ever seen. A few pieces of romaine lettuce and a bit of caesar dressing. When she complained to the waitress, she said she would have the manager come and talk to us. But, the manager never came to talk to us. They solved the problem by giving her another identical caesar salad. Literally, snubbed!

I've never felt discriminated against in a restaurant before. We were definitely dressed nicely and ordered food, so I'm not exactly sure what their problem was. I felt that if they did not want us to come back, they have definitely succeeded. I think that they must have poor management. However, I never did get to meet the manager, as he or she would not come out to speak to our party.

My advice is to spend your money somewhere else. There are plenty of other excellent restaurants in Salem. Try Morton's, Old Europe Inn, or even Bentleys. At least you'll be treated well and get a decent meal.

If you're looking for a good Italian place in the Salem area, try J.Bella's in Independence. It's right on Main Street across from the park. The atmosphere is clean and updated, the people are nice and they have a nice wine bar, too. It's still our favorite restaurant, even more so after our experience at DaVinci's.

  • Pros: Ambience was good for a romantic dinner
  • Cons: Service, Parking, Food, General Attitude of Employees

Don't Recommend

by yukamurai at Citysearch

My husband and I went to DaVinci's last night. We were very dissapointed.

We sat second floor, which is restaurant side (not the bar). Our server was just concentrating her service on her 4-5 people tables, and she totally ignored us, because we were just 2 or us.

Our glasses of wine were supporsed to come with our dinner, but they did not come, and we were waiting for long time till I told the manager to bring them.

Yesterday was my birthday, so my husband asked bathboy (our server was not available) to bring something special for birthday, like birthday dessert. Usually good restaurant has special dessert for birthday, so we expected that this restaurant have one, but bathboy brought just dessert manu, and they don't have anything special.

We were just dissapointed, and it was my birthday dinner, so i wanted it to be at least decent.

Unbeatable!!!

by oregonwino at Citysearch

The incredible atmosphere and decor is only the beginning of what makes Davinci's a memorable experience. The food is consistently top notch, service is very knowledgable and friendly, and the wine list is outstanding! I make it a point to stop by whenever I happen to be in Salem.

Romantic place for dinner

by hikeasy at Citysearch

For a romantic night on the town and very good food it serves its purpose. The food is a little expensive and I thought the portions were small. The atmoshpere was good, no noisy children disrupting your dinner. If you have to use the restroom, you have to be given a code to open the door, which I thought was kind of annoying. I would still recommend the resturaunt soley on its well prepared excellent food.
