The Post Ranch Inn houses Big Sur's finest restaurant, with elegant design, classy service and delectable New American cuisine.

The Scene
Elegant yet earthy, the interior's wood-and-glass combinations and floor-to-ceiling windows exemplify the area's organic design, while original artwork--including colorful rectangles made from torn plastic bags--lends a contemporary touch. Be sure to glide down the gently sloping dining room all the way to the bar, where master bartenders concoct every cocktail known to man.
The Food
The four-course prix-fixe menu changes nightly but is sure to feature fresh fish, free-range chicken or beef and a vegetarian special, so there's always something for everyone. All dishes can be ordered a la carte, but it's absolutely worthwhile to splurge on the four-course feast. Dishes have included perfectly seared scallops over a surprisingly appropriate lentil ragout and balsamic-brown-butter vinaigrette, curried mussel bisque, a medley of vegetable purees with basil emulsion, and pudding cake daringly adorned with blood-orange sorbet.

the view from every table is amazing. we went the couple of nights we stayed at the post ranch inn. first night we ordered ala cart, which I would highly recommend. having the set menu is far too much food - to a point where you don't feel good after you have your dinner. they should make the tasting menu just that, a tasting menu. some of the entrees are a bit heavy on sauces. for the guests of the inn, they serve breakfast every morning that is awesome! there's a strawberry-basil jam that I'd drive back up there for. the good thing is, you can buy jars of the jams and take them home.
