One of the oldest resorts in the East is kind of the forgotten middle child of New York's state-owned ski areas.

The Scene
Gore is not as convenient as Belleayre, nor as formidable as Whiteface. But Gore really deserves to be judged on its own merits. An old mountain town dating back to the ski trains of the '30s, it hasn't been mucked with much since.
The Slopes
The trails aren't uniformly steep, but they all have character. It's essentially classic terrain. In years past, you had to take an old gondola that looked like it came straight out of a '50s sci-fi flick and was as slow as the BQE at rush hour. Thankfully, a high-speed eight-passenger gondola has been recently added. Like the one it replaced, the lift boasts truly spectacular views of the White Mountains, the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks.
