Don't Go

by thistime

This was our first and last visit to Villa Barone. We were seated properly and had the usual glass of water poured and served. We then had a small dish of olive oil and peppers for dipping placed on the table. The homemade doughy-like bread came about 15 minutes later. We both had appetizers. My wife had the Spinach De Avellino: Spinach Sautéed with Portabello Mushrooms, Topped with Grilled Shrimp - $9 (stuff mushrooms) which were OK (aside from Portabello being misspelled on the menu the shrimp apparently diced and lost somewhere on top, the mushrooms did require salt for taste). I had the Asparagus Bella Nona: Sautéed Asparagus, Garlic and Oil, Topped with Prosciutto and Melted Sharp Provolone for $9. Well for the $9 I got 8 very hard Sequoia-like Asparagus (I wouldn’t even buy these in a grocery store and Nona meaning nine in Italian had some hidden meaning). Yes it was topped with prosciutto of a low grade with much fat throughout. The sauce was yellow and non-descript. Out main meal arrived in a timely fashion. I had the Margharita (misspelled?) Classic Italian Pizza with Fresh Mozzarella, Basil and a Touch of Olive Oil - $13. The pizza was doughy (like the bread) and the fresh mozzarella took on a gummy-like texture. I had to leave half of the pizza behind. My wife had the pork special- $22. It was dry, and conveyed to our waiter as such (he just said, sorry). No one from management came or any reduction on our tab was reflected as such. She left half the meal behind. Now I must say with all candor, the entire time before and during our meal we had our water glasses refilled. The person refreshing our water glasses had the most redolent , cheap, violent-stinking, lingering perfume smell we had ever smelt. Other guests next us agreed. It just made a horrible meal even worse. I did speak up and tell the waiter. I think he thought it was OK or plain just funny. I was the good Samaritan, paid my bill and left my tip never to return. What a cheap crappy want-a-be Italian restaurant. This could easily make book for Kitchens Nightmares.

Ambiance is old Italy perfection

by dontblazeme

My wife and I go here on our anniversary every year because this is our favorite restaurant. They make you feel like you are family and want to take care of you for the experiance. The food is amazing! Try any of the veal dishes; they are perfect no matter what you choose. They only problem is the parking, you have to find a spot on the nearby streets which around dinner time is very difficult. I do recommend making reservations, but they will seat you if you walk in. Their prices are awesome too. You really can't go wrong dinning here.

  • Pros: Food, Service, Ambience
  • Cons: Parking

Casual B.Y.O.B. succeeds with rich Italian cuisine and smart atmosphere.

by Contributor

In Short
Three separate rooms create a spacious interior where a mix of locals satisfies cravings for authentic Italian fare. Vines, grapes and paintings of Italian landscapes create a Tuscan decor. Standout entrees include lobster-filled ravioli topped with shrimp in a creamy red sauce and tender veal, topped with asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes and portabello mushrooms in a rich cognac sauce. Finish with a light, refreshing sponge cake torte drenched in sweet mango sauce.

Remember to Eat Your Greens

by the_mock_turtle

Villa Barone has good food, good service and a good atmosphere. I am using the word good advisedly, it isn't stupendous, but you won't come away with complaints either. Both the food and service are reliably good. The decor is a little over done, but pleasant enough. Their fresh baked bread which comes with one's entree is terrific, but don't be fooled the appetizer called pane in corrozza (mozzarella bread) is more fried and breaded mozzarella than bread and is mediocre. The entrees I have had have all be quite good and the desserts are also top notch.

  • Pros: good service
  • Cons: metered parking

Terrible!

by susiederkins

They treat customers like garbage and make you feel like your business is unimportant. The owner has no regards for his guests, and doesn't seem to get that going to his restaurant is a choice that people won't make again if he keeps acting like that.

Horrible Service.... 3 times!

by benjen1007

I have been to Villa Barone 3 times and everytime the service was awful. At the most recent visit, the hostess waited 10 minutes before seating us and then we waited another 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order. (the restaurant was not busy at all). The food was bland and definitely not worth the trip at all!

  • Cons: service, bland food

Perfect! From a North End Italian Bostonian

by blossom19

Some of the freshest and most tasty Italian food around.Huge portions! Please note that this is a BYOB, so if you want wine with your fine Italian dining, bring it! Seer of the chicken, the dishes are great but there is something about the chicken, however, there are few places that serve the quality of pasta and seafood dished than Villa Barone. You will never go wrong with their sauces. Great for a romantic night out as well as a family dinner. And they have the most scrumptious delicious perfect Tiramisu that I have tasted outside of my own mother's. I keep going back...I am addicted.

  • Pros: The sauce!, Seafood, Tiramisu!
  • Cons: Chicken
