Worth the Trip!! by D B. at InsiderPages

Giamarellos is family owned and operated. A fantastic, romantic place for a meal. Black Angus steak is cooked to perfection!! Unbelievable Maine Lobster!!! It is worth the trip just for the Martini Bar. They also boast an extensive wine list. Top of the pick!!!
very unpleasant experience

the food was good. my steak was definitely a high quality steak, very very tender- but i would say preparation was average. the caramel gelato was delicious, probably the best part of my meal.
all of this, however, was completely overshadowed by the terrible service. it was 20 minutes after we sat down before anyone saw us or brought us a drink, and for any subsequent drinks i had to flag my waitress down. for $135 (apps, coffee and dessert, no drinks), i expect better service.
then to top it all off, the guys in the valet area were completely rude. it was our first time there (and last) and weren't aware the parking lot was VALET ONLY. (there is a small self park section in the front that was full). since we didn't know it was valet, we had no cash, as usual. i realize not tipping the valet is completely tacky, and felt embarassed and awful about it UNTIL the valet person (dressed like he was working at the car wash, not a nice restaurant) made a comment about how he didn't realize he was working "charity service".
maybe if they worked on their staff i would return, but not otherwise. i would much rather go elsewhere and spend less than half as much and be treated much better. the food wasn't nearly good enough to outweigh the rest of my experience.

We have been eating at Giumarello's for years now and there is no comparison to any other Italian restaurants around and they keep improving. We always have friendly, knowledgable servers and the food is always cooked to perfection. They have an amazing martini menu and their new bar area is better than any we've seen. We have gone with friends to different restaurants in the city and we'd much rather go to Giumarello's, where we know we always have a great time and an exceptional dining experience.
best in south jersey

This place has a great ambiance, fantastic food, adn exceptional service. There Crab cakes were moth watering, the best in Jersey! You have to try the lobster mac & cheese.
- Pros: ambiance, service, menu selection, valet parking
- Cons: none
Not recommended even if the food and drinks were "free".

During my adult life I have had the pleasure of having many dining experiences (personal/professional). Over that period I have had my share of both good and bad experiences . However, I have never "actually" written a review until now. I have been to Giumarello's on a few occasions . During this past holiday season I convinced eight of my neighbors to have our annual night out at Giumarello's. Overall the experience was "fair" for me however, it was not good for the other seven members of my party. SInce that time I have had one additional experience at this place and it will be my last! I am writing this review because I would not recommend this restaurant per the poor service, however, mainly the rude and prejudice management/owners.
I live roughly 20 minutes from Westmont NJ and would NEVER visit this place again even if the food and drinks were free. Fortunately, there are numerous other restaurants within walking distance of this place that are nice and treat their customers with respect.
I hope this review helps others avoid a very bad dining experience.
Boring food
by mahoneeg at Citysearch
Though I can see why many other people would like this place, I think that this place is overrated. I have been here on several occasions because my friends like going here, but I would not recommend it. The same sauce, though good, is on virtually everything. My salad was too oily, as was my friend's. The martini list is great, but we ended up leaving because the music was so dreadful. The best part was definitlely the service, which I can see is why people might go back. Just don't go with high expectations.
- Pros: Great service, nice atmosphere
- Cons: Overpriced and boring food, depressing music
worst experience in fine dining

went for anniversary, made reservations 5 days before and spent the dinner eating in a phone booth amid a room of empty chairs, had the waitress step on my foot 3 times. food was good, was willing to accept the expense but the experience was pathetic. Apparently if you are not good friends with the staff, don't bother wasting your time or money. Many better options available within 10 minute drive
- Pros: food was good
- Cons: horrible atmosphere, be prepared to eat with your elbows in your ribs unless you know the staff
WHY THE HYPE!

I"ve tried for months to get an 8 PM Saturday night reservation and was told that you need to try at least 1 month in advance. When my recent Sat. night plans changed, I called Giumarellos to see if they had any openings. I was shocked to find out that they had an 8 o'clock opening. My husband and I were so excited that we were finally going to try this great Italian restaurant. Boy, were we disappointed!!! I'll start by mentioning that the place is very pretty with a nice garden room and the service is wonderful. However, the food was not. The fried calamari was soggy, the crabcakes were presented like a crab imperial, the salmon was dry, and the capellini with crabmeat was overcooked and soupy. The cocktail list was outstanding and the martinis were very good. I"m wondering that maybe I got a reservation so easily was because people are beginning to see that there are better Italian restaurants around.
- Pros: drink list; service; ambience
- Cons: food
One of South Jersey's finest spots for cuisine of the Italian homeland.
by Contributor at Citysearch
In Short
Owners, chefs and brothers Samuel and Gian Giumarello have got the perfect array of authentic dishes from the Italian homeland. Their eatery caters to a varied crowd that includes locals and city dwellers. Spacious rooms offer a warm, inviting ambiance. Main courses include pastas, fresh seafood, chicken, veal and filets served in generous portions and accompanied by salad and a side of penne or roasted potatoes.
Superb!

I dine here 1-2 times a week. That is saying something special, as no restaurant has ever captured my heart and palate is this one has. The friendly atmosphere, impeccable service, management, cuisine and cocktails make Giumarello's a brilliant star of this region. The pork chop Milanese is to die for! Sammy and Gian are great guys and Frankie the GM is a charm. Add in Jerry mixing perfect cocktails behind the bar and you've got a winner. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Simply the Best!

I recently went there for "Happy hour" with some friends on a Thursday night...great crowd, great drinks (the "pink bikini"), and great food (spicy calamari). And we loved the nonsmoking bar...finally a bar for the nonsmokers!!! We will be back...Giumarello's--- simply the best!
