Fantastic
by apexron at Citysearch
My wife and I treated our family to the "Thanksgiving Package", 5 adults and 2 children. This is NOT Motel 6. Words could not possibly be sufficient to describe the experience. I have never seen so many happy hotel employees in my life. We were treated like royalty. The restaurants were all fantastic as was the entertainment. Though I have never been on a cruise, based on the description of cruise experiences from others this is like being on a cruise without the ocean. Even with the economy the way it is, the place was booked, yet plenty of room to move around. You must try this place, but make sure that it is for more than one night. We enjoyed four nights and probably would have stayed for longer where it not for having to go back to work.
- Pros: Parking at room level

The Scene
Featuring mountain vistas, lots of fresh air and views of the Asheville skyline, this resort redefines the meaning of Southern comfort. It offers every activity you can think of, from golf, tennis and swimming to racquetball, aerobics and treatments at its acclaimed 40,000-square-foot spa.
The Details
The property is comprised of the Historic Main Inn, the Sammons and Vanderbilt Contemporary Wings and The Cottage. Accommodations include oversized Club Floor rooms and overlook either the Blue Ridge Mountains, the golf course or town. For corporate travelers, there is 50,000 square-feet of meeting space. Kids under 16 stay free with their parents, and the special children's program keeps them entertained while their folks are teeing off or getting a massage. Dining choices include Horizons or the more casual Blue Ridge Dining Room. The Sunset Terrace serves lunch and dinner, and drinks are on offer at the Pool Cabana or Great Hall Bar.
Sit on the great porch of this historic hotel and enjoy views of the Blue Ridge Mountains receding into the distance.

In Short
Asheville, North Carolina, also known as Land of the Sky, is home to the Grove Park Inn. Built in 1913 from granite stones mined from Sunset Mountain, the resort overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains. Newly remodeled, the guestrooms combine modern amenities with old-fashioned charm. Nestled below the hotel is a 40,000-square-foot spa, which offers rest and relaxation in the form of masques, massage and hydro baths.

I stay at The Grove Park Inn (usually 2-5 days) as an ocassional stress-free get-away. The service and accomodations are stellar and the serene ambiance meets my needs for recouping from life's daily challenges. The staff are very serious in assuring their guests are well-cared for and often go beyond the call of duty.
Sincerely,
Peg Gurney

A Wonderous Resort
by Valerie46 at Citysearch
The view was so beautiful and peaceful. What was so appealing was the lobby. So huge with big fire places and lots of seating around and a bar that was very neat. You actually felt as if you have stop and went back to another world. The atmosphere is nostalgic. The rooms are furnished with antiques and the beds are great. I could really do a write up on the spa, so unbelieveable you would have to see it to believe it. It is like being in a Greek Palace. All the waterfalls in the hot tubs and it is all all built of rocks and built underground. There is music pumped in under the mineral pool and the steam room is great with the peppermint towels to go around your neck. . Lots of movie stars have stayed here so you might just see on in the lobby.
- Pros: exclusive, atmosphere
- Cons: expensive
