Very Bad Experience. I visited the Mackinaw Island on Friday, August 6th 2010 with my family and we rented 4 bikes with 4 tag alongs for the children with us. The condition of the bikes was very poor...my seat was soaking wet from the inside and proceeded to soak my pants in a not so desirable area as well as 2 of the tag alongs were broken causing the children to drastically lean to one side. We returned to the shop and the nice gentleman there "repaired the tag alongs" and switched out my seat. We then proceeded around the Island only to find that one of the tag alongs was not repaired properly and we were 3 miles into our trip around the Island. Not realizing that they would meet us and bring a new bike, we proceeded around the Island...struggling the best we could with the broken equipment making for a very hard ride and ultimately not allowing us to ride as a family. When I returned to the shop, I explained the situation to the owner requesting compensation for what transpired. THE MANAGER IRA RESPONDED TO ME (IN A YELLING MANNER) WITH "I AM SICK OF YOU PEOPLE, YOU TOURISTS. YOU THINK YOU CAN COME AND DEMAND WHAT YOU WANT AND GET AWAY WITH IT...WELL IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY." He then proceeded to yell at me asking why didn't I call when I realized it was broke again (throwing my receipt at me saying the number is posted right here)..I explained that we didn't have phones with us as we were trying to leave work behind and that I didn't realize that was an option. The screaming and belittling from him continued for about 10 minutes right in front of our children too. Totally unacceptable customer service here! When I contacted the tourism booth about my situation, they stated "Ira doesn't care if he pleases these tourists or not he gets so much business he doesn't have to." With all that said, I highly recommend that you take your business elsewhere to a shop that appreciates the tourists that come and support the economy on the Island as IRA CLEARLY SPELLED OUT THAT HE IS "SICK OF US TOURISTS!" I recommend OrrKids Bike Shop right next door. The manager Jeff was very friendly and very sympathetic to our horrifying experience which did put a damper on what was supposed to be a stress free afternoon shared amongst family members.
