The Scene
Remotely located 30 miles southwest of Traverse City, Crystal Mountain Resort is only one of two ski resorts in the entire country selected to participate in both the Alpine and Nordic Premier Ski Programs of L.L. Bean.
The Slopes
Crystal's terrain would be considered tame for expert skiers, although two runs, Loki and Thor, are among the state's steepest. The emphasis at this family-owned resort is on families who want to ski together. The area is compact, making it easy for family members to ski different trails and still meet at the bottom of the same lift. Intermediates will especially like the wide-open expanses of Buck, a good cruiser with its own quad chair. Beginners usually head to the lightly pitched Cheers run, serviced by a double chair geared to move at a slower pace for novices.
Vital Stats
Vertical drop: 375 feet
Lifts: 9
Beginner terrain: 25 percent
Intermediate terrain: 47 percent
Advanced terrain: 28 percent
Snowboarding: Full facilities

What a great year-round resort! Pristine Golf courses meander through woodlands and wetlands. Ski slopes have been dramatically expanded in the last couple years and provide a lot more terrain, including more lifts. Autumn is a great time to relax and wander the trails -- They've got this great outdoor Art Park that is in the part of an extensive hiking trail network through the woods. Go there twice, and the staff starts to recognize you. Great place to let the kids run off & play at the pools or kid programs.
- Pros: Top Notch Accomodatio, Safe Family feel , All Season

Condition of the course has seen dramatic improvement in the last year. The pro shop need to space out tee times a little more to allow a more relaxing round. After golf is a big plus with the new Thistle Bar and Grille, however there needs to be more nightlife in the surrounding areas.
