With two accomplished ski areas in one, this resort is a major Michigan winter destination.

The Scene
Shanty Creek is located about 50 highway miles northeast of Traverse City, in one of the snowiest pockets of the state. It's actually two ski areas in one: Schuss Mountain and Summit Slopes. Skiers and snowboarders can access both areas (via shuttle bus) and a combined total of 46 runs and 12 lifts with one ticket.
The Slopes
Between the two, Schuss Mountain offers the best overall skiing and most challenging terrain. The main run, Kingdom Come, is an imposing drop from top to bottom, requiring that you descend in full view of the lodge, swimming pool, restaurant and bar. Along with the additional lifts and runs comes a back side, which features a nice collection of intermediate cruising runs. Because its runs are wider and more forgiving, Summit Slopes is ideal for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders.
Vital Stats
Vertical drop: 450 feet
Lifts: 12
Beginner terrain: 37 percent
Intermediate terrain: 30 percent
Advanced terrain: 33 percent
Snowboarding: Full facilities

This is a wonderful resort for snowboarding/skiing and golf for the whole family and corporate outing. Cedar River Village is absolutely beautiful. The outdoor heated pools and hot tubs are great to relax after a long day of snowboarding/skiing. The snowboarding park will challenge anybody. The food is excellent and a friendly staff. I would definitely recommend this destination/resort to anyone.
- Pros: Family Atmosphere, Snow Boarding Park, Cedar River-Beautiful

I live around this area, and I love it there are to mountains, the summit which is more for the family, and beginers, Shuss is more steep and has alot more challeenges if you go out and find them. Plus the prices are'nt that bad so go check it out.
