Very Very Good

by foodiewithintegrity

My friends and family eat at Bison County about twice a month. The BBQ is real southern hard wood smoked BBQ and always amazing. The grilled meats are terrific as well and the half pound burgers with tons of toppings are awesome. We were told the rolls for the sandwiches and burgers are delivered daily from a local bakery. You can tell! One of our friends doesn't eat meat and she loves the veggie quesadilla and the New Orleans style pasta. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed and the staff seems to really care. We love it.

Love This Place!

by welovetoeatout

Went to Bison County last night for the second time. We loved it so much that I had to write a review today. Logged on to write the review and noticed the previous review. Not sure what that person is talking about, as our experience was amazing. They were busy when we arrived and the manager actually rearranged tables to accommodate our party of 6. Two of our group were from South Carolina and said that the BBQ was authentic and delicious. I had the steak tips which were cooked perfectly and very tender. The sweet corn fritters and garlic mashed were addictive. Great beer and bourbon selections.

  • Pros: The best BBQ
  • Cons: 15 minute wait

Awful!

I visited this past Friday night and had a bad meal, bad service and a surly manager! I will never return.

Great sides

by jlib123

I went here based on all the great reviews. One review said it had the best pulled pork and I had to try it out. The pulled pork comes with the choice of two sauces, Texas or South Carolina. I expected the South Carolina to be a vinegar based sauce, but I found out after I ordered it that it was honey mustard. I thought I'd try it anyway. It was decent, but it made me wish I had some vinegar to put on top. We had extra sauce from the corn fritters, so I used that. The corn fritters were great along with the cole slaw and beans. The beer menu was good and I was happy to get a pumpkin ale. Overall, I still haven't found a better pulled pork sandwich in MA than Blue Ribbon's.

  • Pros: Another BBQ place to check out
  • Cons: Not enough sauce for the pulled pork

Best BBQ in Massachusetts

by mahtzy

We came in hungry for bbq and were not disappointed. We started with the smoked south carolina wings which were tender and fell off the bone. the sweet honey mustard bbq sauce was a perfect compliment to the smoky flavor of the meat. not knowing which ribs to get, our server suggested the "cowboys and indians" plate, a combo of 2 barbequed meats. I got both the southern spareribs and the babybacks. both were great, smoked perfectly. much better than i've had at other area bbq places. the spareribs were tender and juicy while the babybacks fell of the bone but didn't fall apart from over-cooking. don't forget to ask for the cornbread and honey butter (worth the trip by itself). the large selection of beer (lots of local micros) was a pretty nice touch, too. the barstaff (we ate at the bar) was helpful in picking from a few i'd never heard of. the huge tv's showing the sox and celtics didn't hurt our night out either.

  • Pros: Food, portions, price
  • Cons: Parking can be a little tough

Our smoky barbecue and welcoming bar scene add some down-home charm to Waltham's Moody Street.

by Eric Grossman

The Scene
One of MetroWest's most popular spots for barbecue, Bison County offers area families a casual, affordable dining destination. The eclectically decorated bar area, filled with bison heads and colorful license plates, is popular with locals for watching sports. There are two dining rooms--one contains an open grill that fills the restaurant with a sweet, smoky aroma, while the other is brighter and quieter.

The Food
Laid-back servers deliver standard barbecued meats (smoked brisket, pulled chicken) straight from the fire. Popular appetizers include rattlesnake eggs (red jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese), Louisiana catfish nuggets and turkey-chicken chili. Indecisive diners order combination items like the "wagon train," nearly a pound of flavorful bison, teak and turkey tips. Entrees come with a choice of sides--standouts include garlic mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. Those with a sweet tooth finish off with hearty desserts like a sinful brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream.

Yee Haw

My boyfriend and I had a craving for BBQ the other night and decided to try this place out. We're glad we did. All you can eat cornbread with honey butter to start with was DELICIOUS. Large beer menu was definitely a plus. I liked that you could see your food being cooked on a large grill. Good ribs, good turkey tips, good service, great price. Right at the heart of Moody Street so afterwards you have access to shopping, movies, ice cream, the Charles River, etc. The only thing we were surprised about was the music - it didn't quite go with what I would have expected the ambience of a BBQ place would be (a mix of 80s and todays hits). Overall, a cool place to visit when in the mood for BBQ!

service ok, poor quality food

by happyboy6

No kids menu! So not very good for kids.

Decided to order "cowboys and indians" BBQ which could come with two options for BBQ and various sides. Then the bad news. No brisket available. Ok, so picked 1/2 babyback ribs and pulled pork. It was a 1/3 side of ribs. The 5 ounces of pulled pork had a lot of fat and was clearly a mixture of meat not cooked the same amount of time. Some larger harder chunks and some pork shredded to the tiniest size. One third of the sides that should have come with the meal weren't available! The fries that did come with the meal tasted like they were fried in old oil.

The serving sizes, the quality of the BBQ, things on the menu that just weren't available, are these guys going out of business or just planning to?

I've had BBQ and do it myself, so I know what it can taste like and this wasn't it.

Whenever friends come to visit us in Waltham, this is the first place that we take them. Menu highlights include: pulled pork sandwiches, sweet potato fries, baked beans, wings, ribs and the bison! It is almost impossible to make a bad menu choice. Every person that we bring to Bison County is thrilled with their meal and the value. Yum!
