like an animal!

by pramos28

Driving up Revere Beach Blvd and saw Kelly's, not a long line, thought i had heard of the place somewhere in my travels. Stashed my yankees hat under the car seat and headed in.

Went in, ordered, went out in the car and ate like an animal! The sandwich was fantastic, I had juices and dressings and sauce running down my hands and all over my face and was being satisfied. The fries...well, usually when something says it comes with bacon, you look for the bacon. No problem in this dept! Bacon and cheese and goodness galore! The crab roll was good too. When I say good, I mean outstanding!

Maybe it was a little $$ but why would I expect Burger King prices for something so fantastic? And, I was able to eat in the car because unlike at the golden arches...they give you a stack of napkins, not just one.

Fried clams to die for

by Bob from nahant

Great venue for fried clams and oinion rings. I was in California for 5 years and while on the West Coast would dream of Kelly's Fried Clams. On brief trips back, would head there for an inexpensive evening and with a view of the Atlantic

Keep your food close! The seagulls are very crafty. The other night I sat under the gazeebo accross the street and put my food on the wall in front of me. A viscious gang of 6 seagulls swooped down to grab my dinner. It was only saved by some very quick eye-hand coordination. I left some very dissapointed seagulls on the beach that evening

  • Pros: fast service, quality food, good prices
  • Cons: Fighting with very agressive Seagulls while eating!

Grease Grease and more Grease

by ferrantewadler

We hadn't been to Kellys on the beach for many years. I did remember the clams as being a little greasy, but when we went today, i didnt believe it. they were heavy, dry and rubbery. the onion rings were tasteless and felt like biting into a pile of dirt. the staff was friendly enough, and the location is great, but I wont go again.

Still a classic after all these years -- and best value (and chicken fingers) anywhere

by wingedmonkeys

Wow. I've been going to Kelly's since I was a kid -- and I'm 50 now. Over all those years, Kelly's is still my family's favorite place to go for fast food prepared to order from good-quality ingredients.

Where else can you get hamburgers or hot dogs served on hot buttered toasted buns -- not to mention the world's juiciest, most succulent roast beef sandwiches, tender chicken fingers, and an absolutely ginormous fish plate (fresh cod, fries, onion rings, and the best tartar sauce on earth, in portions generous enough to feed petite me and my 250-pound hubby)? And don't get me started on their fried chicken or clams. And their lobster roll, while an indulgence is worth the money -- big chunks of fresh lobster meat with the right amount of mayo to create a little bit of heaven on a plate.

The original Kelly's on Revere Beach is still the best -- not sure that the branch restaurants are quite as good. Let's face it, nothing tastes better when you're sitting by the beach on a crisp fall day, eating piping hot fried scallops and fries, while the gulls wheel overhead and the wind rolls in off the ocean.

Not sure why so many folks think prices are high at Kelly's these days -- maybe they're ordering the lobster rolls, which is the most expensive item on the menu. I can still feed my husband, me, and two college-age kids with appetites to match for under $35.

  • Pros: Parking is easy (except in high summer); food emerges piping hot
  • Cons: Long wait; branches are inconsistent; stick with Kelly's on Revere Beach for best food

The fries smell good

by celesteral

The fries look and smell good, but after watching 3 - 200 pound women scarf them down during at lunchtime at work, I can definitely say I will stick to my low calorie salads. :)

Cheap???? Are you on medication?

by keeko77

Are you nuts? Kelly's is so overpriced it's unreal...

The prices are not Cheap and it's become overpriced for the quality of food you get there.

3 people can't eat there for under $30.00 dollars.

Wake up and smell the coffee.. they got too big and lost their appeal!!!

  • Pros: Easy to get some seafood
  • Cons: Expensive, food is not like it used to be.

good food not cheap

by tommyboy999

I was brought up in Revere, and ate at Kelly's at least twice a week. The food is still very good, great cheeseburgers, the dog's are the best with their warm buttery toasted roll, but the roast beef is unpredictable. They give you a big sandwich but it's not alway's cooked the way I like it (rare to medium rare) If you like your beef well done and dry you'll like this sandwich, but if you like it rare it's a good idea to ask them before you order. The saugus location in my opinion is the best one. The service is faster, and they usually get the order right every time. The prices have definitely sky rocketed over the years, but for the quality of food you get its well worth the extra money.

  • Pros: Fresh food, great burgers and dog's
  • Cons: Roast beef sandwiches sometimes dry and overcooked.

Great Boston Institution

by huskyduck

A quintessential Boston dining experience is to get a roast beef sandwich with all the trimmings, a chowder and some fries and head across the street and dine out on the outdoor dining patio next to the beach. And to curious visitors to Boston, this is not your typical fast food "roast beef". This is fresh from the oven, just sliced and juicy meat. Forget your diet and get it with gravy for the full experience.

There are several other Boston locations but the beach location is by far the most fun.

  • Pros: Real Roast Beef; Clam Chowder; Great Beach Location

Local bastion of roast beef sandwiches and fried seafood thrills area families with several area locations.

by Contributor

In Short
Kelly's flagship, takeout-only Revere Beach location provides a top spot for summertime people-watching, as outdoor tables enable customers to watch an endless parade of strolling couples. The signature, overstuffed roast beef sandwich is sliced fresh and requires a two-handed grasp. Other menu favorites include clam chowder, onion rings and fried clams. Compared to downtown restaurants' pricey, undersized versions, the lobster roll (meat of two one-pound Maine lobsters) is a veritable bargain.
