WAY overpriced, a bit run down

by musicproducer28 at Citysearch

I have stayed in the very nicest hotels and the very worst. This is right in the middle. I will say the staff was very nice and helpful. The place was remodeled in 2004 and it looks like it was in 1994. EVERYTHING in the place was well used and the furniture was pretty old. The trim in the place was cheap and old looking. This was NO NICER than a motel 6 or Super 8. However it was 100 dollars a night PLUS 8 dollars a night to park (what the hell do they think this is, New York?) and there was no free internet in the room which is unheard of anymore. It costs 10 dollars per day to have internet. The room service food was terrible, but the white water grille was very good. This was my first trip to Charleston, and the city itself is ugly, poor, and desolate. There is a mall across the street, which is nothing spectacular at all and there were so many wiggers around there it was embarrassing to be white . The hotel was NON SMOKING which is great. Maybe the rest of this backwards state will com to the new century and go non smoking in all hotels and restaurants like my home state of California. There are not many options here in this town, but this is probably the best choice. I just expected more. My mistake?

  • Pros: NON SMOKING
  • Cons: Run down, parking, internet cost WAY too much

Professionals appreciate the business center, meeting facilities, in-room work area with ergonomic chair and no-glare lamp, and express check-out. Those who come to kick back take advantage of the pool and gift shop. Spacious rooms include a comfy bed with a quilted-top mattress, oversized comforters and feather pillows. convenient and good for business

by barbcrane at Citysearch

I recently spent a couple of days in Charleston on business. The Marriott was a good choice for a hotel - convenient to downtown, a comfortable, well-furnished room (NICE mattress and bedding), and across the street from the Town Centre Mall (several choices for dinner: Olive Garden, Chili's, Outback, Tidewater Grill, and the usual fast food). Parking was easy in the attached garage. The swimming pool was closed for repairs, which had not been mentioned in the reservation confirmation. Desk service when I checked in was less than informative, but subsequent personnel were very helpful. The American Grill was pleasant for a quick bite at night and for breakfast. Soda machine was poorly stocked and listed sodas incorrectly - that was my only big complaint.

  • Pros: convenient, good parking, close to mall
  • Cons: no fridge in room
