Worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Arrived at restaurant after being unable to table due to long wait at some surrounding restaurants after Colorado football game in Lawrence. Service was incredibly slow and between getting drinks, salad, and meal, an hour and a half had elasped. Other issues with service such as recieving cutlury or recieving an accurate time frame when food would arrive went on the back burner when a beer was served that was unpalatable due to a detergent taste as though it had not been washed or rinsed properly. Service and management was unapathetic and there is no excuse for the level of service given we saw 5 or more servers available and 5 empty tables around us. Food was average at best.

Pleasantly surprised. My husband and I got married in May and we had our rehearsal dinner at Vermont St BBQ. My husband LOVES Vermont Street, so naturally it was his first choice for food. I am not a meat eater, so I wasn't as excited as he was, but it turned out to be awesome. We were able to rent one whole room of the restaurant, and when I told the owner that I didn't eat meat, he offered to smoke salmon or stuff portobello mushrooms! They put linens and candles on the tables and set aside waitresses just for our group. Everyone was satisfied. It was the perfect laid-back atmosphere for the night before our wedding.

Best BBQ in Lawrence area (freshly smoked). Vermont Street BBQ is not your typical BBQ restaurant around Lawrence. They don?t re heat their meat and put a pound of sauce on it before serving it to you. What Vermont Street BBQ does do is provide you with meat that has been smoked in their smoker that day, everyday. At times you will be frustrated that they are out of Spare Ribs or Pulled Pork for an hour that night until they can get more out but that just allows you to be able to try something new and just as good. Believe me, in the last two years I have been able to try everything on the menu and although some things I prefer over others, they are all amazing. The cooks also make homemade potato salad, pasta salad, cole slaw, baked beans and corn bread. You won't get that across the street at Buffalo Bobs Smokehouse. Vermont Street BBQ has amazing Spare Ribs and 25 cent smoked wings on Wednesday and $1 draws on Tuesday nights that include Free State and Boulevard Beer. It is great food and a great atmosphere. The servers are all nice and friendly with smiles on their face. Even though those waitresses are not trained to be robots like some restaurants do, they are good at what they do and knowledgeable of all the food and drinks they serve. If you want to go to a place and have things taste old and cold at times, then go to a chain restaurant, but if you want your food to be fresh and you are not wanting to pay a lot of money for fine dining then go to Vermont Street BBQ. And about that comment about the meat wrapped in the paper, it locks in the moisture and heat so that your meat will not be cold and dry and the plates are actually baskets, because like I said earlier, they are not your ordinary restaurant.

Nothing fancy..but good eats!. Go for the ribs...babyback ribs are second to none in Lawrence. Memphis style with the rub...they take care of the meat...not depend on the sauce like 1/2 of all BBQ around here. The place has a hole in the wall feel...is entirely non-smoking (THANK YOU LAWRENCE!!) and has some hella good ribs..

Oh yeah...and with a brewery just down the street...good beer as well!

Huge Disappointment. We took the in-laws here for what we thought would be some great BBQ with the ambience of the BBQ of yester-year. I ordered some appetizers for us to share. I requested some plates so we could share the appetizers while we were drinking and waiting for our order to come up and the waitress told us "the chef says "no plates, they are reserved for salads". I couldn't believe it.

I wanted a BBQ plate, but the menu didn't offer any so I ordered a BBQ pork sandwich platter and requested no bread. They bought me BBQ pork wrapped in wax paper with fries and cole slaw. I couldn't believe it either.

What a disappointing excuse for a Kansas City style BBQ house.
