Great Place

I went to Jasmine for dinner on 2/27/09 and after reading some reviews I was a bit skeptical about the place. To my surprise, I thought the atmosphere was nice, the food was great and the prices were reasonable. Overall, I would highly recommend this sushi restaurant. Of course having dinner with a beautiful woman makes the atmosphere that much more enjoyable. But that aside, I would go there again.

rude and poor service

i went to this restaurant on sunday evening at 8:30pm on 4/15/2007. we were sat by the window on a cold night and the restaurant temperature was very drafty. we asked to be moved which we were.then the host spurted words about last call but really did not understand what he meant.

after 10 minutes of sitting a waitress came to the the table and ask if we wanted drinks we ordered tea and told her we ready to order she pointed he finger and said wait .i was a little shocked but accepted this . our tea came out and we order soups ,apps and a main course. the soup came out at once followed by the apps and main course at the same time. we were kinda of surprised but accepted this. then at 9pm the waterfall went off the music changed to a high volume radio station and as i was still eating the waitress said can i box it up for you. she said we are now closed. i could not believe we were being thrown out ! we got the bill paid it .and claimed we would never return. they really do not care about the customer here!!!!

Best sushi in Wilmington

I used to live in NYC so am pretty picky and Jasmine has the best sushi in DE that I've found (so far). The previous reviewer made the mistake of not sitting at the sushi bar. I agree that the wait staff is not as educated as they should be on the sushi-side of things but I think this is because a large majority of the DE patrons go for the cooked food. If you love sushi, SIT AT THE BAR. The chefs are friendly and will accomodate special requests and suggest "specials" they might have. We've had live scallops (yum) and some of the best oysters ever. I can't speak to the roll substitiuions b/c I'm a purist and prefer sushi (my boyfriend is even "more pure" and only eats sashimi). When it comes to the pure quality of the fish, Jasmine is simply the best around.

Very disappointing

As a newcomer to the Wilmington area from Philadelphia, which has an abundance of japanese/sushi restaurants, I was very disappointed by Jasmine. I do not think this is a restaurant for sushi eaters. The majority of the menu consists of "woked" items, teryaki items, appetizers and other non-sushi items. I found that the waiter was not very accomodating with switching rolls to suit our liking. In fact, in order to substitute cucumber for avocado in the Alaskan roll (salmon and avocado), they charged an extra dollar! (Besides the fact that everything was more expensive than then other sushi restaurants we frequent) The best items we ordered were the shrimp dumplings and the miso soup and wonton soup, so if we return to this restaurant it will not be for the sushi, but to try the other pan-asian dishes on the menu.

Ambience is chill

I went today for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised with the ambience of the place. Very hip--something you'd see in NYC or SF. Music was relaxing. Overall experience was very good. Food was ok. Setting makes up for any lack in food.

Above average...

Above average Asian restaurant for what's in the area. Appetizers include decent dumplings, crab wontons, egg rolls, an satay. Entree highlights include excellently prepared, flaky roasted sea bass atop a large mound of (in need of seasoning) sweet potatoes annd bok choi. The snapper served in the same preparation and in a brown sauce was overcooked. The pad thai is also in need of more kick to it. Service was fine although our server was new and a bit unfamiliar with the menu. On a return visit, however, our server was pretty miserable...he was not very helpful and seemed flustered when we asked for water, replying "bus boy gonna bring the water."
