Amazing crepes and a lovely atmosphere
by ferndaleres at Citysearch
This bistro has some of my favorite decor of any Ferndale restaurant. It's romantic, cozy, cool, and serene, with lots of great artwork, wood booths, and warm colors. The food is really great, and obviously lovingly prepared. The wild mushroom crepe is a definite standout. My only complaint is that the price of their house wine is too high. It's decent wine, but you're charged premium wine prices. It brings an otherwise reasonably priced meal to too high a total. Other than that, though, highly recommended if you like European bistro food and atmosphere.
- Pros: Warm ambience, delicious food
- Cons: High-priced wine, sometimes slow service
Heart in the heart of Ferndale

Josephine has a warm and welcoming feel. Love the food, decor and music. Not only are the crepes fantastic so is the atmosphere. The art work hanging on the walls is one of a kind. I love how the owners support not only the community of Ferndale but also local artists in the greater Detroit area.
- Pros: quality food, warm & ecletic atmosphere
- Cons: wine selection & price

Keep in mind that it's a "Bistro" (with capital B)!!!
This place can get loud and the music isn't always the best. Decor is so-so. Wine is over-priced with very little variety. I did a "last Wednesday" (by myself) and my bill came up to about 48 dollars. Most of the plates were cold and not very exciting. Staff is not very attentive and slow. They are mostly teenage girls and not experienced. It hardly qualifies as a "nice" French place. If you like French food you are likely to find a better place!!!!
- Pros: different
- Cons: slow, somewhat noisy, cold food
Cold buffet
by elamott at Citysearch
My husband and I had Easter brunch buffet Josephine's. We've been in other times where the food has been terrific, but the buffet was a disappointment. The brunch was $21.95 plus the cost of beverages. With two coffees, our bill came out to around $50. Although the presentation was great, the food was cold (even when brought straight from the kitchen to the warming trays). When I complained, it was suggested to me to make a plate to be "nuked" in the microwave. The sound of "nuked" buffet food didn't interest me in the least. I left feeling disappointed. Dinner I've had there has been fantastic, but I would not recommend making a reservation for any type of buffet here.
- Pros: Great presentation and service
- Cons: Cold food
Do Last Wednesdays!! ( Le dernier mercredi du mois)
by straightboy at Citysearch
Last Wednesdays is a great chance to sample this wonderful restaurant at a fixed price menu. Inventive, European and tasty. If you can't make wednesday I highly recommend the seafood crepe or the duck confit. And try a crepe for dessert.
They make their own wine which is a little inconsistent, but you are there for the wonderful food!
I highly recommend reservations for 'Last Wednesdays'. It can get packed.

We had reservations for the "Last Wednesday". Our seats were near the kitchen. Next time we will request window or somewhere else. Not because they were bad seats, just that it would have been nicer elsewhere.
