As a health-concious mom I have always believed in feeding my family natural, whole, and wherever possible, organic foods but supermarket prices made eating well virtually impossible. I'm SO GLAD I discovered Trader Joes! They carry everything from organic yoghurt to whole grain breads, rolls, pitas and bagels - all free of genetic modifications, pesticides, additives and high prices. The atmosphere is pleasant and the employees are the most friendly, happy people you'd ever want to meet. Grocery shopping is a PLEASURE now - I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Founder Joseph Coulombe started this L.A.-based convenience chain 34 years ago. Today, you can get exotic, prepackaged frozen foods, fresh salsas, huge portobello mushrooms, baby artichokes and heirloom tomatoes fresher--and cheaper--than at most supermarkets. Inexpensive meat, fish, coffees and teas, dozens of cheeses, grains and pastas cram the shelves. The frozen section features tasty treats, including barbecue chicken pizzas, mushroom risotto and salmon patties. Beer, wine and liquor sections are stocked with very affordable labels.
