Best cut, color and blowout I've ever had

Until I discovered Salon XL, I was a major salon-hopper. I couldn't fine a stylist that understood my needs or my hair. I have seen almost every girl at Salon XL and they are all equally talented and provide the same level of quality and service. The facility itself is pretty small and not what you'd expect for such high calibur of talent, but I tell you it's one of Ann Arbor's hidden gems! Seriously treat yourself to a day at Salon XL, it's worth every penny!!

• Cons: Decor a little outdated

Spectacular!

I have been going to Salon XL for several years and see the owner, Charlie. I cannot say enough good things about this salon and Charlie herself. I have been treated wonderfully there! I have had so many compliments on my hair since I have been going there. . My color looks the best it has ever looked and they are always doing their best to pamper their clients and make them feel welcome. I have had other hair stylists in Ann Arbor ask me who was doing my hair because it looked so good. Once I was not completely happy with my color and Charlie had me back as soon as I could get there to change it. I have had two other friends go there and they would tell you as well that it is the best their hair has ever looked. I think anyone who reads these reviews can see that someone has a personal vendetta against the salon - how unfortunate that they choose to take that out in such an adolescent way.

Overpriced, Snobby, BAD color

I must say first and foremost that I have a VERY strong reason to believe that all the reviews on here past 2006 are written by the staff members. There were no reviews for like 2 years and all of a sudden in the past month there are several. Also last time I was there, I heard the girls talking about citysearch. I have had my blonde hair colored 3 times by the salon owner, Charlie. I found her to be rude and snobby. She constantly interupted me every time i spoke and made some very stuck up comments (ex "I wouldn't even get out of bed for $40,000 a year). She got mad at me when I told her I didn't want to have it cut this last time around and rolled her eyes and shook her head. My blonde always turns out really grey/ashy with purple tones in it whenever she colors it. She also charges an arm and a leg, $280 for a bleach and tone last time i was there. Its normally $140 but because I asked her to run some toner through my ends which took about 5 mins, she charged me double. For that price it should look AWESOME and instead I had to run to Sally's and try to buy some product to fix it. I was in NY a week later and got my hair cut by a celebrity stylist, she was SHOCKED that someone let me leave their salon with my hair color that bad. They all looked at my hair and agreed that it was very patchy and had several weird colors in it. I now go to a diff salon in the Ann Arbor area and they actually all knew right away who Charlie was and said she has a reputation for being b****y and they get alot of ex Salon XL customers. DON"T GO TO SALON XL and if you do, do not book an appointment with Charlie. Some of the other ladies seem lovely but Charlie's attitude always ruins the atmosphere.

Amazing color!

I shouldn't have any hair left. Seriously - I do something for color every single time I get my hair cut. Its only because the talent of the lovely ladies at Salon XL that I have any hair let alone very healthy and pretty (if i do say so myself) long locks. A lot of people seem shocked about the "song and dance" with Kerastase but Salon XL ladies are professionals... they suggest items that will keep your hair healthy and strong. If you don't want to buy Kerastase, don't. But again, if I am spending dollars on gorgeous color and cut then I want to best products on my hair all month round (not just the day of my salon visit).

A hidden treasure

This salon is one of Ann Arbor's best kept secrets. Rather than spending a fortune on promoting itself the salon centers more on continuing education and setting the trends. The salon owner is the first board certified hair colorist in Ann Arbor and requires her stylists to achieve the same level of certification. They carry the industries best product line - Kerastase. There are plenty of good hair salons in Ann Arbor, but I prefer the best - and this place is it.

Great Salon Experience

I have been going to Salon XL for years and have seen first hand that they treat their customers with the best service you can hope for. The prices are comparable to other Ann Arbor salons and the value is well worth it! The stylists are total experts and give great recommendations. The atmosphere is so cool- very whimsical and colorful. They pay attention to every detail and I always leave feeling rejuvinated. They are great at educating you on what they are doing and how to do your hair at home. The Kerastase products are a little more expensive than I was used to, but they really make a big difference and they last forever. Overall, great salon experience!

I've been to a million salons in my time, and know what sets this salon apart from the rest: Talent, Management and Leadership. Charlie has made going to the salon a unique and delightful experience. This salon is fun, energetic and innovative...nothing short of extraordinary!

I love Salon XL! I've been going there for about four years now and it's really a great place. There was a time where I wasn't able to make it there (because I wasn't in town a lot) and everywhere else I went made my hair look terrible compared to what they did! I love all the stylist there, and everyone of them is consistent. Right when I walk in I'm treated like I'm a million dollars (even though I am not!) The receptionist are always fabulous, and I really appreciate how comfortable everyone makes me feel. The place is consistently kept clean, and always looks great. That is one the first things I noticed about the salon, was how great it looked (the decor is wonderful!) They've really help me take care of my hair, and even though the products are sometimes pricey -- they are GREAT products and have done so much for my naturally dry hair. Every time I walk in there, I could not feel so fabulous but as soon as I walk out I feel like a whole new, wonderful person. I love it and would recommend it to EVERYONE. Even if you are coming in town for a UofM game -- GET AN APPOINTMENT! You won't regret it, and every stylist is VERY qualified. :) Oh! and another great feature is their curtsey call the day before you appointment! Helps me never miss!

I have lived everywhere from NY to LA, even TX where blondes are everywhere and I have never been as satisfied with my cut and color as I was with Lindsaya at Salon XL! She is so talented and helpful. She prescribed me with the perfect products to repair and maintain the health and color of my hair. However, there was no pressure to buy. She just educated me and did not PUSH the products on me. Its nice to feel like you can trust your beauty in someones hands.

Best Salon In Michigan!!!

Have you ever felt Zen about something? That is feeling you will get after you see yourself after your service at Salon XL. They even validate parking!! The stylists are amazing and the products are top of the line. I will never go to another salon while living in Michigan!
