Real open pit BBQ

Best BBQ in and around central Florida, only open in late fall and early spring. Not the best location or facilities but food makes up for it!

You won't find better BBQ anywhere, and I have sought out BBQ all over this country from East to West. The place looks like it should be torn down, there's no AC, it's crowded, and the bathrooms are outside, but that's part of the character of the place. The food will far surpass anything you have ever had anywhere. It's out of the way, and for a place so popular, it seems like everyone I talk to about it thinks it's their own little secret...
- Pros: THE FOOD! 25 foot open pit is a sight in itself, the staff is just awesome...
- Cons: Only open 3 days a week, 4 months out of the year. Bring cash; no credit cards accepted

I like this barbque. It is one of the few that I do like. It is worth the drive from Lakeland to get some good food. The prices are about right and the service is great. The appearance is deceiving, the food is good, so don't go by looks.

Peebles is a well known establishment in Auburndale off Old Dixie Highway. It's a converted chicken shack so the place looks rustic, I mean really rustic! But that's part of its charm.
The ribs are excellent, some of the best I've ever eaten. The rib plate usually has potato salad, beans, ribs and some bread. Enough to fill you up!
Keep in mind there is no air conditioning so in the warmer months, choose take out and eat at home.
Highly recommended
PROS: Great barbecue
CONS: If you want upscale eatin, this aint it. Good luck finding parking.

I was reared in Winter Haven and have been eating Peebles for almost 50 years. We live in Atlanta now and drive from Atlanta to Brooksville, FL, every three months for a retreat. Our trips ALWAYS include a detour to Auburndale to feast on Peebles Barbecue. We've check out barbecue all over the world and have found NONE BETTER than Peebles.
Great hidden BBQ

Have to know where is as off the beaten path. True open pit as you walk in, it is right there before you as you watch them BBQ. Ambience - Rustic quaint. Dirt parking lot, white wood frame building, no glass windows - just screening with wooden awnings held open by boards then removed and awnings secured when resteraunt closed. Food is great BBQ. Worth asking locals direction to where it is.
We drive 50 miles for this BBQ!

We may enjoy 5 star restaurants and resorts, but when it comes to the best BBQ EVER, we drive from Orlando to get this BBQ!
- Pros: Great food, Great food, Good Value
- Cons: not open long enough, no celeb sitings
