the people watching here is excellent because it is right on ocean. the service is also fairly quick and they are friendly. the breakfast dishes were ok, although nothing spectacular.

Skip the News Cafe and head right to the Front Porch or the 11th St. Diner. I dined at 3 different places for breakfast while in SoBe and this was my least favorite. The food was mediocre (I think they used frozen breakfast potatoes-- ew) and the service was incredibly slow considering we only ordered omelets and yogurt. Our waiter was probably the least friendly server I encountered. Overall, not worth it. There are plenty of better breakfast joints around.

Pros: large menu w/ lots of options for everyone

Cons: not the greatest breakfast food in SoBe, slow service

I am a native to Miami and spend much of my time at South Beach visiting local restaurants and just enjoying the crowd. This morning my husband and I decided to just go take a dip in the beach and enjoy a lunch at News Cafe. We ordered Caesar Salad and Create Your Own Pizza. Our table was located on the sidewalk and though I don't know the waitress' name I can describe her as: blond, pony tail, black visor. Not the pregnant one. Well, we were enjoying our salad, and my husband just yells at me, "don't eat it" and started waiving to the waitress. When I looked at his plate, there was a huge aphid. (Can't write bg on this review) How grouse!!! The waitress just came to say she was sorry and "we" had to tell her that we weren't going to pay for the salad. She didn't even offer. Moreover, she carried on as business as usual and I had to ask her, "What happens next?" She said, "oh the manager will go into the kitchen and take care of it..." We didn't get one person from Senior staff to apologize... much more, try swallowing your pizza after that site???

How this restaurant ever got a 9.2 rating on citysearch is beyond me. We went for breakfast and not only were my eggs served cold with cold potatoes, my wife's french toast was cold as well, and the topper was the side of bacon, which wasn't so much a side of bacon, but shredded bacon that would not have been appropriate as bacon bits. All this while the table next to us sent their eggs back three times as well and the kitchen never got theirs right. No apologies from the staff and an attitude that was not helpful to say the least. THIS IS A TOURIST TRAP THAT CARES NOTHING ABOUT QUALITY BECAUSE THEY KNOW YOU AREN'T COMING BACK. DO NOT EAT HERE.

Cons: Food, Service, Attitude

At least the food is ok here-not great, but at least ok. But the service is another story. Arrogant, slow, inexperienced waiters- no wonder they have to include the tip! Better to get takeout-you won't have to suffer the horrible service!

Pros: great people watching

Cons: terrible service, no parking

Go early if you want fast service. Gets packed after noon but still worth waiting for brunch. There's nothing you won't like about it!

Pros: Food, Ambience

Cons: , Parking

Busiest spot on Ocean Drive for outdoor breakfast is clearly News Cafe. My "jewish omelette" (salmon & cream cheese omelette) was fantastic! My wife ordered Eggs Florentine, and when it arrived 20 minutes after ordering, the eggs & sauce were cold while the accompanying potatoes were hot. We sent it back, and the waiter returned with another fresh serving of it in about 7 minutes. Same problem--the sauce was cold. Try AGAIN, and on the 3rd try, (about 7 minutes later again)the dish was served at the temp it should have been. However, the spinach in the dish should have been shredded, and the bland cream sauce on top should have been a more flavorful hollandaise-style sauce. We expected better, but at least the embarrassed waiter didn't charge us for the Florentine dish. As a bonus, they have the classiest, cleanest bathrooms I found on the strip--impressive!

Pros: Ambience, People-watching, Classy restroom

This place is very popular, and we ate here for lunch and late night. Food is pretty solid, with tons of healthy options. However, service is terrible. Worth checking out if you can get a sidewalk table.

The news cafe on ocean in south beach is awesome!!! We have spent two vacations in South Beach and the News Cafe has everything we need. The service was great, the food was wonderful, and the view is breathtaking. Every morning we would walk down to the News Cafe to start the the day with a fabulous breakfast.

Pros: atmosphere, location, menu

SERVICE STINKS, FOOD IS JUST SO-SO, PRICES ARE INSANE - - - HOWEVER, THE AMBIENCE, VIEWS OF THOSE ROLLER-BLADING CUTIES AND HOT CARS ARE WHY WE GO.
