not great by Scott A. at InsiderPages

The food here is just average. Not great, and very expensive. The people that work there have always been rude to me every time I've been there. Plus the food portions are very small for too much money.
Different but the best in Delaware by far...

I love good food, and this place has the best steak sandwiches in Delaware. The first review here may have noticed a change in the rolls, I don't know about that, I just started eating here a few months back. They are very different from the Philly steak shops, where the crust is much harder, you know, the kind that cuts the corners of your mouth. Don't get me wrong, I like that kind too, but Claymont's rolls are big, tasty and soft and don't fall apart. The steak itself is loaded and juicy. Mine had plenty of cheese, I like provolone on my steaks and there's was really good. One of the cool things about this place is you can see them making the steaks, just like in Philly!
- Pros: Best Steaks In DE and Super Clean
- Cons: My Stomach is too small...

Claymont has come along way baby without changing the taste.so many people talk about how nice it is now but i say the only thing that is changed is a cleaner atmosphere staff is always changing so i recomend the if you feel your not making the person on the phone under stand ask nicly to speak to someone else or go down and make your order in person say hi get to know the people who serve you.like back in the day. that way when you call they will know who you are and what you want. Try to be relistic for no one is perfect, but i give claymont a 99.8 since i have only had 2 problems in 20 years just wish my dad was alive so we could sit down and eat inside. most of alI I tell people who have not been their if eat in, take out or made to travel,on a budjet ,worth the money you pay ,tasty food is what you want.then claymont steakshop is where you should go. Become a customer for life like my Coworkers, family and I .my brother in law from Montana stops in every time he comes to delaware and he agrees the Quailty Flavor and price can't be beat.So if your on 495 get off at the claymont exit go past the exxon ,archmere academy, wilmington trust ,and you are their.
- Pros: clean nice place to eat affordable
- Cons: some language barriers, need to be alittle more patient when taking orders just my view while waiting to pickup
So So

Claymont used to have the best steak I ever had but that has changed in recent years. I think they switched their rolls because it's just not as good as I once remember it. There isn't enough cheese on it either. There's a lot of steak but not enough cheese to cover it all. This is a huge sandwich that needs to be finished in 2 sittings. I will give Claymont another shot though next time I am in the area.
Unbelievable Food, Great Service
by bill1962 at Citysearch
I've just gone back for maybe the 20th time. The food is unbeleivable. They've got the best cheesesteaks ever, and their pizza is out of this world. Service was prompt, and they always seem to get everything right, down to the crushed hot peppers I ask for on my cheesesteak. I highly recommend. They've got awards hung up all over their walls, and I can see (and taste) why!
- Pros: Thinly sliced prime rib used in their cheesesteaks
- Cons: Sandwiches may be too big; they're good and you want to finish it all
Would not suggest -incompetant - couldn't get order correct even after the 3rd try

I just wrote a review regarding this restaurant and it was probably one of the worst experiances that I could possibly describe when it comes to ordering out and yet when I submitted my review it gave this restaurant 3 stars.... seems to be a defective system... we'll see what it gets this time....So this is what I wrote the first time - apparently if you write more than one review they take the ladder of the two....I don?t understand what has happened to this place within the last 2 years or so. I ordered & picked it up, got it home to find that it was incorrect. I then called them to let them know about it and went to pick it up again - again when it got home it was incorrect. They sent out a driver to bring it to me again and when I opened it again it was wrong. I then called them and told them that it was incorrect - the response? Let me give you a full credit for the next time that you come in. THE NEXT TIME??? WHAT NEXT TIME? So then I took my receipt, my card and the 3rd wrong order and went down there so that they could credit my card - when I got there and told them who I was - the guy at the register called another guy out, he started speaking in a foreign language and apologized again for the problem made some lame excuse about the peppers that weren?t supposed to be on there being on there because they were so close to the tomatoes. After that they told me that they could just void the whole order, (why they didn?t just do that to begin with - I don?t know - because it just irritated me more that I went down there to get my card credited. They could?ve just saved me the trip and not irritated me further than what I already was - because now - I will never go there again. There?s a great place right down the street that I should?ve went to to begin with.
- Pros: If you catch them on a good day I'm sure they might be worth the $
- Cons: It seems harder as of late to catch them on a good day
Best Cheesesteaks
by delearyous at Citysearch
I have had Pats and the others in S.Philly. And they are good and have a long standing tradition.
But once you have Claymonts "famous" cheesesteaks you will see what all the buzz is about. If you don't believe me try it yourself.
Short hop on Philly Pike in Claymont.
- Pros: tastes great, Huge rolls, alot of meat
Yummy Yummy

Claymont steaks are the best in the area. Even those critics from ESPN said that their steaks are better than any of those shops in Philadelphia.
