Such a great place- had to share!

I had such an amazing time at the Thistle Dew Inn that I had to post.

I travel to bed and breakfasts often, as I prefer them to hotels. Usually the atmosphere is very stuffy, with Victorian lace and uber-polite managers. Everyone at the Thistle Dew, from the owners (who I met) to the manager to the staff are very friendly. They provided helpful tips about local wineries and restaraunts- there is so much to chose from when the inn is 1/2 block from Sonoma Square! It is furnished in the turn-of-the-century Arts and Crafts style, so comfortable, simple, and elegant. The handmade quilts were also a nice touch. The houses themselves (2) have a unique history- ask for the story! Breakfast was delicious, and being seated around a huge antique table created a very homey environment. The grounds are delightful, wonderfully landscaped with blooming roses and flowers. We went to the Girl in the Fig the first night for dinner, but decided to stay in the second night and use the outdoor bbq and relaxing hot tub. Although it is very peaceful and TVs are not included in the room, our hosts let us borrow a TV/DVD for a night in front of the fireplace in our room. From the first moment we entered we were greeted as friends, and we felt the same throughout our stay.

If you like historic charm with friendly people, conveniently located in the middle of Sonoma wine country, this is my #1 choice (and trust me, I've done my research)!!

The grounds feature the owners' amazing garden with dozens of lovely roses. As well, there are pleasant sitting areas with water fountains, ideal for reading on warm, summer days. Accommodations are furnished with authentic Arts & Crafts pieces, fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. A full gourmet breakfast is served every morning. The town plaza is just a block away, and guests can cycle there on complimentary bikes provided by the inn.
