This hotel is absolutely amazing! The staff was so nice and accommodating to us. I loved the location - some people complained about it, but I really liked the location it is really close to the town square.
- Pros: beautiful, close to square, great staff
- Cons: restaurant ok
Great for a Get-A-Way

My wife and I just got back from a trip to Sonoma. MacArthur Place is probably one of our favorite hotels that we have ever stayed in. The room was spacious and frankly I would have stayed there simply for the amazing shower and jacuzzi tub. The staff is friendly and the grounds are beautiful and quirky. If you go, definitely check out the spa!
Modernity meets hospitality in the Northern California countryside.

The Scene
This country estate is made up of twenty Victorian buildings dating as far back as the 1850s. It offers a wonderful place to rejuvenate---guests can rock the day away in wicker chairs on a traditional southern porch, savor a massage or herbal wrap in the Japanese massage house or meander through the lush gardens landscaped with trumpet and passion flowers, roses and Koi ponds.
The Details
Whimsical metal sculptures scattered throughout the grounds and dynamic modern paintings add life to this otherwise traditional country inn. While each of the 64 uniquely designed rooms is predominantly country in décor, they are accented by inviting colors and original artwork. Bathrooms are equipped with the complete line of grapeseed bath products from the property's acclaimed spa. A steak house, martini bar, fitness center and seven high-tech meeting rooms complete the picture.
Great, friendly service

My wife and I visited MacArthur Place in mid-July. The B&B we booked was terrible, so we called MacArthur. After explaining our situation, we were offered a suite at a dramatic discount.
We were greeted like old friends and were pleased to find that we arrived in time for the evening's complimentry cheese and wine.
The suite was situated in a townhouse-style building. It was very cozy and well furnished. The gardens between the buildings were very nice also.
Complaints? The location is not the best, as it sits partly on the main road into town. But this is only an issue if you are staying in one of the four or five building on that side on the grounds. The rest of the inn is boarded by a nice residential neighborhood, which was nice for an evening walk.
I will stay there again on future visits to Sonoma.

Bizzare

The most unfortunate thing about MacArthur Place is it's location. The website implies that the we would be staying in and amongst a group of charming cottages surrounded by sonoma's beautiful woods. When we arrived we realilzed it was more like a group of prefab town homes smack dab in the middle of town with a breathtaking view of the Ford dealership. It wasn't what we were expecting.
- Pros: nice room, spa, pool
- Cons: location, poor atmosphere
