While Rhinebeck has its picturesque moments. I would hardly call it the best for fall foliage in NY. You are lucky to get across town in under an hour on weekends due to the over crowded streets. Though the outskirts and back roads may offer some relief. You will most likely end up looking across the river, admiring the beautiful views of the Catskills and Blue Mountain region of Ulster County.
The state's past is on display in the historic Hudson Valley.

Historic estates and storybook homes fill the streets of this little town. Visitors can explore one of nine spacious mansions in the area--the Vanderbilts, the Mills, the Roosevelts and the Livingstons are only a few of the families who owned estates in and around Rhinebeck. Other popular destinations include the old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, which is still flying planes from WWI, and the famous Culinary Institute of America in nearby Hyde Park.

This is the most beuatiful part of the country that I have ever seen. I have seen the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and all the way to the East Coast. Rhinebeck is truly the prettiest place to visit for fall foliage
