Fantastic hideaway!.
This is my new favorite Nashville restaurant, hands down! The owners are fabulous - a true Italian restaurant owner and his beautiful wife. Carlo's stories are amazing and he won't hesitate to sit down and spend a half an hour with you at the bar over a glass of wine telling you his stories and listening to yours.
Speaking of wine, Sole Mio's wine list is superb and the food... I don't even have words. This is what fine dining should be and I was quite surprised to find this little hideaway so conveniently located in downtown Nashville.
If you want to take someone special somewhere amazing or if you simply want a fantastic glass of wine in a relaxing little italian atmosphere, Sole Mio is definitely your best choice in Nashville. I really do love this place and plan on going back quite frequently!
Awesome. I had been wanting to try Solo Mio for a long time and am so glad we finally made it. The food was perfect (I had veal and my date the chicken) and our server Tracy was not only very friendly but knowledgable about the wines and helped us make a wonderful selection. We have already made plans to go again with friends.
The best food ever!. First time eating at this restaurant and I had the best experience. It is a very romantic restaurant that has a great location. Everything from the bread to the desert was great! I will recommend this place to all of my friends!
finally we made it... Truly Superb..
Visiting Nashville is something that I do from time to time for business. I almost always stay at the Hampton right by Sole Mio and for a very long time I have wanted to try this little restaurant. And, having my wife along with me this trip we finally did. Sole Mio is not cheap, but it isn't as expensive as other restaurants that have tablecloths, candles, and fresh flowers. It is a perfect little 'splurge' to do with a date. And, I would have to say it definitely won't be the last time we splurge a little. The food was outstanding and simple and the service was amongst the very best we have ever had anywhere.
My wife and I were graciously greeted late in the evening. We were given a romantic table by a large window looking out at the lights of Nashville. Our server almost immediately greeted us warmly and helped us choose a wine. We wanted a Jordan Cabernet, which was not available by the glass, and he allowed us to taste several 'by the glass' Italian and California selections he had available, and he explained them as we tasted. We selected the super tuscan, which was really good and similar to a chianti/ cabernet.
He explained their homemade 'build your own' pastas and made recommendations from the specials. We took his suggestion and shared a tomato salad with fresh basil and olive oil. Then my wife couldn't decide between tomato and alfredo sauce, so he suggested one that blended both sauces. It was very rich and great over angel hair pasta to which she added shrimp. I had veal with ham and a cream sauce that he recommended from the specials. The food was served piping hot, almost too hot to eat, and the portions were good sized. The food was absolutely delicious from the crispy little potatoes to the fresh olive oil soaked bread. We couldn't quite finish our entrees, but he boxed them so we could try one of their desserts.
The waiter said that Sole Mio is known for there tiramisu and that it is the best in the whole world! We chuckled, and agreed to share (it is our favorite dessert). It looked like something out of a magazine with a sugar tree coming out of the top. It was the perfect complement to our coffees. And, it is much better than our other favorite from the cheesecake factory.
Having really great food is something that a lot of restaurants do, but having service like what we had last night is something you just have to experience. It was flawless, and we really enjoyed dining there. Thanks for a great experience. I can't wait to come to nashville again.
Little italy meets nashville. I recently moved to nashville from nyc. I desperately miss the hustle and bustle as well as the amaxing food available in my home city. A friend recommened sole mio to me, and I was not disappointed. This restaurant has amazing traditional italian cuisine as well as large portions that will leave you more than satisfied. The ambience is great for intimate dinners or a dinner party with a group of close friends. I will be back again soon for my taste of NY here in Music City.
italian stallion.
On a recent visit to nashville, we dined at Sole Mio as suggested by a friend. Sole Mio in nashville is a great 'old school' kind of Italian restaurant. The space is very intimate and romantic, with fresh flowers and candles.
Sole Mio has home made pastas (which seem to be a dying breed). I'd recomend this place to all my family and friends. Can't wait to eat there again!
Highly Disappointed. I guess the first mistake made by Sole Mio had nothing to do with our dining experiece last night, rather the woefully poor decision made by ownership to move from what is arguably the best view into downtown to a ramshackle faux Italianate one story cinder block space that lacks any character and offers no views whatsoever. I digress, the fact that the space had no character really didn't taint the dining experience, but the poor service, cold food & higher priced than necessary mediocre Italian fare was quite disappointing. Stay away if at all possible and be sure to ask how much the symphony special is before you get taken for a nearly thirty dollar ride to cold food capital.
Meh....
I've eaten here a few times: a couple at the old location, and a couple at the new one. At the old location, it won Best of Nashville for "Restaurant with a View", now it's tucked next to overflow parking for downtown events.
Coming from the northeast where Italian food abounds, I was never blown away by the food. I mean, it's good. It's just not what you'd want for a last meal on deathrow.
The last time I went (at the new location), I was uninspired. The food was (again) just OK, but this time they had to raise the prices to cover the move to the new location. Needless to say, it wasn't that great to begin with, and was overpriced at the old location.
This is a bit sad, given that there really aren't many non-franchise Italian restaurants in Nashville, and just about all of them are merely acceptable in the food dept, and in that regard, they're usually inconsistent.
Sadly, I've taken to eating at the upper-end franchises, as the food is always good (if not terribly creative), and predictable. I just can't see dropping $80-120 on a meal for 2 that's just: Meh...
Steller Food & Service. My husband and I had a great experience recently at Sole Mio restaurant. The food and service were both just as awesome as we had hoped and the wine list was spectacular. Many friends have recommended this restaurant to us and we were very pleased with our visit. We will definitely be back!
Terrible Food and Rude Owners. My last visit to this poor excuse for an Italian restaurant remains burned into my memory and I can't seem to let go. I remember being charged for something I did not order and when I politely brought it to the waitresses attention, I was vehemently and verbally attacked by the owners, asked to leave the restaurant, all the while being humiliated in front of a large crowd of people. They both followed me back to my car to make certain I was leaving. This is beyond description and only shows the mentality of these people.
