Went to lunch with my realtor...I
waited ten minutes to be seated...no one in restaurant. Ordered scampi and asked for NO Parmesan cheese. I get my order and there it was. I asked for another and she told me to just scrape it aside. Sorry but it was covered in a cheeseI do not like. My realto r ordered the same with angel pasta. They used spaghetti instead. .She told them to take hers back after taking three bites. There was no apologies or anything. I had to find my own silverware, ask for refills etc. I agree with the other reviews.Do not waste your hard earned money on such a sub par place. Amicos in Nolensville is where I will go next time. Also they close at 2 pm......
I ate lunch at Mama Mia's this
afternoon. The food was great and the service was prompt and friendly.
A "Now Hiring" sign was posted and I asked if they were hiring new waiters. The manager said that they had lost two waiters after closing for vacation and were interviewing to hire more. My waiter was a nice woman whose first day was today.
Hopefully the two waiters that left are the two that caused such problems with the service. It is a shame that such a little jewel of a restaurant is tainted by unskilled waiters.
I think the new staff should be locals who understand how Nashvilleans like to be treated at a restaurant. Mama Mia may have authentic Italian food and atmosphere but the staff should be authentic Nashville. Nashvilleans are nice and expect to be treated nicely in return. Here's hoping the management shares my concern and hires wait staff who care about the customer as much as the kitchen cares about the food.
As a suggestion to those who love and hate the restaurant, let me remind you of how your feelings affect the wait staff. Being a small restaurant that provides cork service, the natural feeling is to linger over the company, food and drink. For a waiter, that means fewer customers, less of a turn over on tables and no tip percentage on the expense of wine and cocktails.
Diners who linger or drink wine should remember that 15% is a minimum and a larger tip should be considered to compensate the waiters for the extra time they take to make you dinner a pleasure. All of the reviewers here rave about the food. If they all gave a little more to the waiters I'm sure they'd see better waiters working there.
We walked out... TERRIBLE management.
It's sad. This place has good food but the management is absolutely horrible. My wife and I have been several times and know that you have to wait a little longer for fresh pasta. Until this past Saturday...
We arrived at 5:50 and stood up front for 15 minutes before someone even came up to seat us. They took our order at 6:10. At 7:20, our waiter (who couldn't care less) told us our food would be out soon (even though 3 tables who came in 30 minutes after us had their food and were ready to pay). We walked out at 7:38 without seeing any food.
We won't be going back. Take my advice, don't waist your time at Mama Mia's. There are plenty of other good italian restaurants in town.
Great food; horrible service. Such a shame. Up until the entree everything was going great and we were talking about how we can't wait to come back. In the car on the way home, we were dumbfounded over the absolutely horrific decline in service. Credit where credit is due - the Italian food is amazing. Everything from the appetizer to the main course to the dessert to the coffee was perfection. But our waiter clearly didn't care. The real shame is they were so close to doing what businesses kill for - and so close to being a great business. But in the end, we left with a sour taste in our mouth from the unacceptable treatment. After being torn over what to do the decision was unanimous. None of us will be back. Life is too short, money too hard earned and there are many other great restaurants in Nashville with much better service. Case closed.
Terrible Dining experience! Don't waste your time. I have to say that after my experience this weekend I will never be returning to Mama Mia's! We went out there for a 29th birthday dinner for my girlfriends sister at 6 pm on saturday with a party of 6. As we walked through the door we were greeted by a tall, dark haired, and skinny male server who was completely rude to us and acted like it was a complete inconvenience that we were even there. He was very rude and informed us that we would not be able to sit down for at least an hour. As mama Mia's is completely disorganized and had nowhere to wait to be seated , we offered to go back to my girlfriends sisters house, which is around the corner to wait. They said they would call us when a table was ready. (By the way if they took reservations all this disorganization would be alleviated! However they do not unless you have eight in your party and they cannot even accommodate a party of 6 as I found out!)I have worked in the service industry for years and have never encountered anyone as a host who was as rude as this waiter/Host! Furthermore , this individual has waited on me before and he was always sub par, Never kept wine glasses full, lack of silverware when entrees arrived, not around to uncork wine when needed , took forever to greet the table , and on multiple occasions,I might add. To be honest I don't know how he even has a job! The other servers there are not much better either, so do not expect good service if you go here! He went so far on one occasion, to drop the check after we received our entrees because he said he needed to get out early to go downtown! Anyway, we were never called and went back to the restaurant after an hour and a half to be greeted by the owner who told us she had no idea what we were talking about when we told her that we had signed in in the book for a table at 6 . She noticed the mistake then . She did NOTHING to rectify the situation except say that we could wait another half an hour for a table! She even proceeded to sit a group right in front of us! This restaurant owner could have done something to appease our group of Mama Mia's regulars! I have bought gift certificates and referred people to the restaurant in the past because I always thought the food was decent for the price, even though service was sub-par!. The owners of this restaurant could care less about keeping anyone happy and would rather ruin my friends 29th birthday without offering any compensation for their mistake. I have never encountered this in my life! They should get a real manager to straighten that place out. Needless to say after we realized that the owner could have cared less she had screwed up, and after 2 hours of waiting, we went somewhere else (los arcos) and had a great dining experience. Thanks for ruining my friends 29th birthday because you and your staff are too incompetent to run a restaurant! Don't go to Mama Mia's unless you want to be treated very rudely, have very poor service, and possibly cold food as well.I will deter anyone I know from ever going back!!
Terrible Service. What a let down! We have been regulars at Mama Mia's for at least 3 years. The convenient location and byob option always made it a good dinner choice. Even though the service was usually sub-par, the yummy food made up for it. I really liked the lobster ravioli! Even a great lobster ravioli can't make up for the rude server/host that greeted us this past weekend. I feel bad for the young man, as he clearly does not have the people skills to excel in a customer service driven field. He was extremely short with us when we tried to leave our name for our party of 6 and acted like we were inconveniencing him . I could go on and on, but in short we won't ever go back...the poor service is more than anyone should have to endure...even for good Sicilian food. We also waited over an hour and a half for a table, then were told they had accidentally told another group they could have the table we were waiting for. The owner approached and offered no solution except that we wait for another table...approx. 30 min. As regular customers we were all very disappointed in the way we were treated and left immediately.
Best italian food ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. My husband and I decided to try this Restaurant last Saturday we did'nt have any reservations and waited to be seated for around 10 min .The waiter was very knowleged of the menu and sugested the Chicken Marsala OMG!!! what a flavor combined with delicious fetuccine with alfredo sauce to die for. The ambience is very nice and really love the decor extremely cozy and romantic for sure we are going back. Next time we bring our favorite wine, can't wait to go back
watever great food in t.n.!!!!. ok i was ther wen the bug was ther and it was becus the door need a little oil but any ways the food is AWSOME!!!!!!! Won't be back.
My boyfriend and I decided to try out Mama Mia's after
seeing Best of Nashville sign out front. WRONG. I
believe my boyfriend ordered the absolute worst spaghetti
in Nashville. Maybe in Tennessee. It was this gross,
sweet sauce. Honestly, Ragu from a jar would have
The service at Mama Mia's is poor. Halfway through our
meal, our male server left the check at our table, which
I considered rude.
We have eaten at the best restaurants in Nashville;
and this is not one of them. If you want truly good
Italian food, try Sole Mios. You will not be disappointed.
WORST of Nashville - bring a hair net and bug spray. My husband and I enjoy trying new restaurants and picked Mama Mia's for a Saturday date night - we had high hopes since it was voted 'Best of Nashville' for 2009. To our disappointment, there was a hair in our appetizer and a giant bug with 10 million legs crawling on the wall by our heads. We had to continually ask for water re-fills and our waiter wasn't attentive (rare for a family run establishment). Next time I drop $50+ bucks on sub-par Italian (without a wine list), I want it hair and bug free. I suppose that minus the run-in with the hair and bug, I would have given them 2 stars, but since the food wasn't that great on top of it, I feel 1 star is being very, very liberal.
