SATCO is a great experience. SATCO - you get what you pay for...and more. The food is inexpensive and tastes good *for what you are paying for it*, they are not trying to serve gourmet tex-mex food, they are a college dive hangout across the street from campus. What you *really* get is the opportunity to sit outside on big deck, enjoy the atmosphere, drink beer, talk with friends, people-watch, enjoy some pretty decent mexican food and just soak in the experience. Go there, order up some food, try a burrito or two, order a bucket of beer and then go find a table outside and sit down, eat your food, drink your beer and you will find it impossible to not have a great time.
Avoid if you want good food and service..
This is not a stop on my recommended tour of Nashville. The food is sadly prepared and the staff could care less about what you want. Their attitudes were dismissive and they seemed like it was a chore when it took me longer than 5 seconds to order. The only thing that was good was the cold beer; thank god they have working appliances!
If you want to eat some good taco's or get a tasty burrito that is worth your time and money, then try Baja Burrito or La Hacienda (check out the 60 oz. margaritas). These are the best two mexican places in town.
Just OK. I can't believe that this is rated so highly. At best, this is a cheap college dive. The food is OK--nothing wrong with it. The cheese dip tastes fake, like it's made from velveeta. The place is way too crowded and loud. So, really this place is best if you are young--it is fun, but not for adults or families.
Overrated.
One of the most overrated places to eat in Nashville. The food is overpriced and quality is subpar. The only thing that I truely think is good is the cheese dip.
What it has going for it is the deck and location. Hard to beat that and get a bucket of beer. I'll go there for some beer and cheese dip, but I will never go out of my way to choose it as a dining destination.
Hang out on the patio and order buckets of beer to wash down huge platters of Tex-Mex at this fun Vandy favorite..
In Short
The food is spicy, but the hottest thing about SATCO is its patio. It's easier to find a table here in summer, when Vanderbilt isn't in session. Fajitas are the house specialty. Take your pick of steak or chicken tacos, and make sure not to get more than two toppings--otherwise you'll spend too much time wiping sour cream and guacamole off your shirt.
What more can you ask for?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?. I have to tell you that the place my friends and I lovingly refer to as Satco ROCKS!!!! I love the food, you can't beat the homemade tortillas. The price is good and I've never been there when there wasn't a line because it is so popular. But they are quick to get you through. I would definately recommend this place to anyone and everyone. We love to go and hang out. I can't wait to take my fiance' when we visit Nashville for our honeymoon!!!!
Great for what it is....
To call SATCO Mexican food is a disservice to all Mexican cooking. Don't get me wrong, for what it is, it's good, but don't go there thinking you're going to get much more than what you get on a serve-yourself taco bar at your mom's house.
SATCO can get pricey if you're not careful. The more you go, the more you realize that you have to order "strategically." For instance, it costs 30 cents less to get a "Bean and Cheese Taco" with Guacamole than a "Guacamole Taco" with beans and cheese. Likewise, you get free refills on chips, so everybody in your group doesn't need to order them.
Without a doubt, the best part of this restaurant is the patio. If you're looking for good Mexican food, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a good place to drink beer outside and snack on greasy food, this is it.
tunicatony. Food is good and atmosphere is good. I think food is extremely overpriced but they have great beer prices. I bought 4 tacos the other day and my total was over $9.00
Best Tex-Mex. Being new here from Texas, this place was fun and it has and reminded me of a Texas cantina. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is very fun and laid back. FOr being in the Vanderbilt area, the prices are not outrageous either.
I love SATCO. I live about 2 hours away from SATCO, but I've eaten there more times than some of the restaurants in my own town. The food is amazing-- their queso is definitely worth driving for! Their prices are really cheap, so it's great if you're low on cash but want expensive-restaurant quality food.
