Good!. Good food, good drinks, good prices, good service. My cowaorkers and I like to meet here after work.
Definately not true Mexican or even Tex-Mex. Having lived in quite a lot of different places and eaten my fair share of Mexican food over the years -- Las Palmas should not be considered "true" Mexican food. There is no spice or flavor to the dishes. The margaritas are too sweet. While there seems to be a lot of "Mexican" restaurants in Nashville, there are not many good Mexican restaurants, but there are definately better restaurants in town for good Mexican food than Las Palmas.
Still good. The food here is good and sometimes the service can be a little slow. I have never had a bad experiance with the food or service before. One of my favorite places to go next to El Ray. There is a non smoking section in all locations but the dining area is small. Nice outside seating at the hayes street location.
Great service and consistent quality.
I can't see how anyone could prefer Taco Bell over Las Palmas. Every time I've dined at this location over the past two years (and we go often), the food and service have been superior.
No, Las Palmas isn't gourmet but it doesn't pretend to be high brow. The food is always fresh and I have plenty to take home. The chicken soft tacos are terrific. The friendly staff keep the drinks and chips/salsa coming. Maybe people just take good service for granted, but I don't. We also like the margaritas a lot.
We've never has "gastric distress" as a result of eating at Las Palmas, but we have at SATCO. Just a warning.
Too Much Cheese????.
The negative reviews, except for the service, are crazy. All of the Las Palmas restaurants have the same menu. This is the best Mexican food I've ever had. The editors say there is too much cheese: evidently, they don't like cheese. I always get the enchiladas and tacos. Also, the Palmas Verdes in Hermitage has the same menu. Ironically, the editor likes the food there...IT'S THE
SAME MENU!!!!
For those with Lowered Expectations. The food is average for a Mexican restaurant, and for the price is not too bad. However, the service is horrible. Also there is no area for non-smokers. Personally it is not worth the hassle for average food at an average price. I have had my one and only experience.
what a mess. How could this happen? This place has got to be some of the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. No flavor, no spice, no nothing...except lots of cheese. I'd even choose SATCO over this place!
Great service doesn't make up for lack of flavor at this popular Mexican joint..
The Scene
The parking lot isn't the only thing that needs work at this downtown Mexican restaurant. The service is fast and friendly, but the food is bland and uninspired. Decor is standard-issue Mexican restaurant, and there's enough seating to prevent long waits for a table. The patio is a great place to have a few margaritas with friends, but keep it at that.
The Food
Excessive cheese seems to be the standard at Las Palmas. An order of nachos comes piled with beef, chicken and beans, along with a generous ladling of soupy, melted cheese. Fajitas are tasty, with perfectly sauteed onions and peppers and generously seasoned shrimp, steak and chicken. But again, a small sea of melted cheese overpowers the other flavors. Margaritas are weak and sweet--ask for a shot of tequila to juice them up. Crispy, cinnamon-dusted sopapillas are delicious, but they don't make up for the rest of the meal.
Ever tasted the best Mexican food???. I have been eating at Las Palmas for approx. 5 years. I absolutely love this restaurant. Not only is the food spectacular but the service is great. You have got to try their white cheese sauce!! Yummy!
How could this happen?. This place is atrocious. Nashvillians obviously do not know good Mexican food.
