Tips for Ruth's Chris Steak House

September 30, 2012

Steak was way over cooked. Steak continues to cook on an overly heated plate when it arrives at the table. As a result by the time you are half way into the steak it is beyond well done and dried out. For the price I would expect these people to be steak experts, but the is a hack for a steak house.

Well, was this ever a good experience! We were celebrating a special day, so I made the reservations, and noted that we were celebrating. When we arrived, they sat us quickly, and provided us with special celebration table and a card signed by the staff as a special touch.

First, the bread was hot and the butter was soft and spreadable.

We ordered the fillet and the ribeye. The steak was very good. It need no additional sauces or accompaniments. We shared the mashed potatoes that were cooked to perfection. In all our many years together we have never both agreed that the food and service were perfect with no complaints, until now.

The complimentary dessert was shared by us both, and was simple and amazing. Again, a first that we both loved a dessert.

It was a perfect night and just the right place to celebrate. The little extras made a special night even more special and the entire experience was beyond expectation.

Finally, the service was impeccable. Our server, James, was knowledgeable and attentive without ever being intrusive.

Thank-you, Ruth's Chris, for a wonderful experience. We will be back!

Horrible service, steak was only lukewarm. We've dined at many Ruth's Chris restaurants across the country and always had excellent food and service. It was just one of those restaurants we thought we could always depend on. This location is the only one where the service was indifferent and the steak was luke warm. A Ruth's Chris Steak is supposed to come out sizzling hot! It's one of their trademarks. The drink they mixed was completly wrong, so they took it away with no apology. We'll never waste our money there again. In fact, it left such bad taste in our mouth, we will think twice before going to any of their restaurants.

Great Place For Corporate Dinner!. Our company recently hosted a dinner for 20 clients and staff at Ruth's Chris on West End Ave and it was a great success! The food was wonderful as was the service. I hadn't realized they had private rooms and was very pleased with the arrangements. It was a great experience for all and really helped us smooze our clients! The prices were reaonable and I understand they will currently work with you regarding budget needs. Would highly recommend for company events and even social dinners!

Nashville's best steak hands down!. Ruth's Chris is by far the best steak money can buy in Nashville! I really don't think anything compares to it. Serving sizes are very generous and delicious. You cannot go wrong with anyghing on the menue. My advice is get the "cowboy" ribeye and something to drink, no need for anything else, it's huge. If you like your steak rare you won't be let down, the middle is still cool when they serve it. I would try to eat it quickly though as the steak is serving on boiling better on a 500 degree plate and it will cook it a little. It's fairly pricey, most the time it costs me about $130 for 2 people. If you are looking for the best steak in town check it out in west end and don't be fooled by people telling yout to try the Stockyard.....it does not compare although it has a unique setting.

Fabulous Food. My husband and I returned to Ruth's Chris after almost a year recently. It was just as delicious as I remember! The lobster bisque and seafood gumbo were out of this world. I got the filet with crab stuffed lobster..and it was divine. The filet was cooked medium and almost melted in my mouth. The crab stuffed lobster on the side was also fantastic.

I highly recommend Ruth's Chris, although it is pricey. Everything is a la carte, and it's not cheap. It is a special occasion must!

My husband and I have both been to Fleming's a few times as well as Stoney River and Mortons. We feel Fleming's is also very good, but Stoney River could not possibly compare to Ruth's Chris.

The downside to Ruth's Chris is the parking - there is none. You have to valet or park at a meter somewhere on West End. The seat we were given was also direclty in front of the swinging doors of the kitchen so it was very noisy and people were constantly walking by. Although I thought this was not a bad thing because we would always have our glasses full, alas, my husband ran out of water halfway through his steak and had to stop someone to ask to refill it (a real downer at such a nice place with that many staff).

Best Steaks, Best Service, weekdays are best.. In response to Tennessee Phil's comments: I am a regular diner at Ruth's Chris. It is better than ever! Obviously the previous diner does not really dine there as often as he claims because Ruth Fertel passed away about 5 years ago now. He would have noticed food quality change 4 years ago if he had dined there often. They changed from Franchise to Corportate 2 years ago and I have seen an improvement for sure! Also, how can you change your opinion on one steak. Animals are unpredictable in quality from time to time, they are not all clones. If you didn't like your steak, tell them, they will get you another one right away. Don't keep it to yourself and then complain about it later. Also, they DO still have the head of lettuce, its now called "the wedge". It is iceberg lettuce. Of all the places in Nashville, Ruth's Chris has the best service staff in town, bar none!!! They are not only professional, but have great personalities...no robots here! I agree with TN Phil on one respect...it can be cold in here. Go there for yourself and see who has it right.

Was good before Ruth died, went down hill after that. When Ruth was alive and running the chain, my family and I used to dine at this restaurant about once a month. It was expensive, but the food was good. However, our last visit which was after Ruth died was terrible. I ordered a filet mignon which was of poor quality; I ended up with a pile of fat and gristle on my plate when I was finished. I used to order their head of lettuce salad, but that had been removed from the menu and replaced by a dainty salad of field greens. The dining room was so cold that everyone in my family ended up putting our coats on. The service was slow, and the server was indifferent. We have not been back.

Sophisticated American chain serves up corn-fed USDA prime cuts and New Orleans-style appetizers and sides.. In Short
This offshoot of a popular New Orleans hangout for politicians features decor of dark woods and comfortable booths, with a separate bar scene. Choice cuts of custom-aged beef arrive in sizzling butter on 500-degree plates. The menu also offers chicken, pork and seafood entrees along with Creole appetizers like shrimp remoulade. Family-style sides include gargantuan onion rings, creamed spinach and various styles of potatoes. Traditional homemade desserts like cheesecake and bread pudding conclude the meal.
