Disappointed.
I have been to Rico's a few times- This time the food was not very good. I was dissapointed in the decor and food. Most of all there was an issue and it did not appear that the management seemed to care.
The mandatory valet parking is ridiculous. The parking spots are very close to the entrance. Why can't folks park their own car if they don't want anyone driving their car? No choice- The valet was rude - they should not have the right to move your vehicle if there is no need to do so and have an attitude as well. Would you give your car keys to someone that has an attitude when you spend thousands on your vehicle? Will not return.
DINERS BEWARE. A special evening dining with friends at Rico's Restaurant changed to a public chagrin when a $9.50 charge for a side of pasta substitute for my baked potatoe was questioned. Initially the waitress' response was to check with Rico. WOW...he approached the table loudly repeating, ' You wrong, you eat, you pay. Any attempt to voice a concern was useless. Realizing his finger in my face was beyond conversation ; 'You are embarrassing me in front of my friends ' was my only reply. Rico's explosive tirade was unexpected and a disappointment. Patrons should cautiously approach ant concerns.
Over Rated.
The food is exceptionally average - at best. Pittsburgh (and surrounding areas) seems to be plagued with places that "everyone knows are great" and people rave about such well known establishments, but in actuality they are just ok or worse. Rico's follows this mold.
Families go here because they always have. Pittsburghers...go travel a little and you will realize that we have very very few decent restaurants.
The staff is nice and the decor is so-so (dated). The prices are bit high (reputation drive prices around here - not quality).
For an Italian establishment your red sauces should excel - these were bland and unexciting.
Perfect setting to propose!. My girlfriend and I were given top service from the moment we walked in the door. We enjoyed a delicious meal and a quiet evening. Now she is my fiancee, so what more can I say!? We were both extremely pleased with our experience at Rico's, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a formal dinner in the city of Pittsburgh. Four thumbs up!
HHughes. I've been going to this restaurant since I was practically born. Has always been and will always be my absolute favorite. If you eat here, absolutely try the angel hair with cream sauce and nuts. It's to die for!
An upscale Italian restaurant in a large, modern building..
The Scene
The large, friendly and inviting bar serving large drinks. Waiters rush about, reciting specials and offering suggestions if asked. This is a favorite hangout for many of the professional athletes in the city, who come for large portions of well-prepared food.
The Food
Rico's has the standard Italian dishes, with a unique twist: Choose your pasta and your sauce as a side dish or entree. It's a great option for groups to try the different options. Seafood is very good here, and the Northern pike should not be missed when available. Rico's is also a place where customers are not afraid to ask for a dish not on the menu. From my experience, chef Rico is glad to oblige if he has the ingredients readily available.
