A Diamond In The Rough. After reading one great and one horrible review online - I had to find out for myself....

You see, I live in the middle; between Keizer and Salem and there haven't been many salons in this area that I would even walk into - let alone allow them to cut my hair. So I went on a mission to find a salon that was not 'South Salem - $100 a haircut' but not 'Keizer - $8 a haircut assembly line). I realized that I was NOT in Portland where EVERY business has been reviewed. So the few that I could find - I read up on. Well - Carol's seemed to fit the bill in every way. There was one bad review - but it was from two years ago - so I figured it was no longer a valid claim. I drove down Center and after having to go around the block - I found the driveway and inside I went. The inside was completely different from the out. The business complex is a little average - not high dollar by any means. The inside made me feel like I was in someone's home. It was excellent! Uplifting and cheery without being obnoxious. Anne said hi (like she actually CARED that I was walking in) and I asked if she had time for a walk in. She said if I could come back in two hours - yes. So I did. Anne was great. I was fit in the middle of a two stage color (which I said was more than fine because I wasn't an appointment and I knew I was making it a little difficult to fit me in.) and when she asked - what do you want.... I said - whatever - just don't cut it shorter than my shoulders (my hair was middle back). She cut and layered and it looks great!

I loved her personality, her style in handling customers and the atmosphere of the place. I will be sending all of my couple's to her for local styles before the wedding!

Amazing stylists, classy atmosphere. When I first stepped out of my car the building was not that impressive to me but you shouldn't let that fool you. I was promptly seated and was helped by a young woman named Krystal Bowers. She was so helpful and worked with my hair for hours to get it just the way I wanted it. I read the previous post on here and I wonder if that person may have had other issues with the salon that she didn't discuss because I have had nothing but great memories each time I visit the salon. I started going to this salon because of my best friend suggesting it to me. You don't need to be afraid of this salon, they really do quality work at a reasonable price. To give you an idea of how much I love going to Krystal, I drive from the coast every six weeks just to see her. She seems to be the only person who can get my hair just right. Being a middle age woman, I've found it hard to find a stylist that actually would listen to what I wanted and not just nod as I was talking. I have had coloring and extensions as well as haircuts done and it all was done very professionally.

Thank you for reading this and I hope more people will write in their experiences of Carol and Company.

Save your money and go to a beauty school, where at least the inexperienced are supervised..... In almost 40 years of having my hair cut and highlighted, this place ranks at the absolute bottom. I have lost a major amount of hair from their unsupervised new graduates 'practicing' and from an absolutely terrible cut. Check the state licensing site to see actual experience of her 'stylists' versus what both her website and her verbal reassurances say.

The first time I went there things went well, I was told my colors were saved in the computer, so I went back.

The second time was a disaster, which they offered to fix and said that things had been misentered in the computer. They promised redoing the hair the next day would not damage it. Wrong. I had more damage from this than from any treatment ever. (This stylist has since moved on.)

I went back a third time, believing their promise that everything had been corrected in the computer--and that the new stylist, Krystal Bowers, was 'highly experienced.' Wrong again. (I realized too late she had been the manicurist a few months back.) I had checked to make sure she was familiar with my formula, told her clearly I wanted no more than an inch-or 1 1/2 maximum--taken off in a trim, and that I did NOT want layers. I also asked if she would do just the roots on the blonde highlights. She changed the color to a brassy red, leaving the highlights with three colors on the same strands of hair, cut off 6-8 inches in an extremely uneven cut, and layered the hair. The lower half of my hair has turned a greenish gray color, clashing in a very unflattering way with the rest of it.

In compliance with the rules here, I won't describe the salon's behavior when I asked for Carol to at least look at my hair.

On the plus side, after they cut off/damage your hair, they do offer hair extensions.....

(I don't go to beauty schools as my hair is important to me and I'm too old to wait for my hair to grow out--this mess will take about two years, but I doubt they can do worse than this place.)
