Tips for Old Monterey Inn

Let Down at the Inn/End. The scenario couldn't have been better. Gorgeous piece of property, cozy rooms, great weather, and a wedding in the back garden. The aforementioned took place. It was following the ceremony of 10 people total that a shocker was introduced to us. The owners decided to charge us an additional $500 for using their property to facilitate the wedding. A wedding of which they were informed of well in advance. It was nothing elaborate. The bride/groom and 8 guest met in the garden and it took no more than 10 minutes. Furthermore, we were all paying guests occupying 5 rooms! Food was great, property was comfortable and relaxing, it's just unfortunate the new owners didn't demonstrate a good business practice when they informed us of the up-charge as we were toasting the happy couple. Hopefully they don't disappoint others so they can return for a second visit. After this experience we can't say that we will.

Very romantic!. We stayed at the Old Monterey Inn for our wedding night in October and the entire experience was so nice. The rooms are clean and beautiful. The gardens are breathtaking.

We highly recommend breakfast in bed. What a treat!

The service is outstanding. The Inn is very comfortable and romantic. We will be returning to Old Monterey Inn for sure!

MAGICAL!!. With so many places to choose from, we had a hard time deciding where to stay on our tip up to Monterey/Carmel. As soon as we pulled into the driveway at Old Monterey Inn we knew we could not have picked a better place. Everything was amazing - the grounds, the rooms, the innkeepers. Yes, it is pricey, but all the extra care made it worth every penny. We had a wood-burning fireplace, a whirlpool tub for two, breakfast in bed, reservations at some wodnerful restaurants, goodies available to us at all times, and the coziest beds imaginable. They did everything imaginable to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of at all times. The breakfasts were the best I have had at any B&B - amazing! It was the most romantice and relaxing place I've ever stayed in. If you choose to stay somewhere else you will really miss out.

We ARE in England, right?. The house and gardens of the Old Monterey Inn look and feel like an English country house. With cool pacific fogs often blowing across Monterey, the effect is uncanny.

The rooms are upscale B&B--not ultra-luxury, but not overly frilly either. Service is very attentive and organized.

Breakfasts are imaginative, served in the formal dining room or delivered to your room. Some fellow guests were put off by the ice cream and fruit served at one morning's breakfast...maybe they lacked the "imagination" of the Inn's cooks.

Location is good for exploring the coastal area, far enough from the tacky Cannery Row area.

A romantic country inn tucked into lush landscaping near Monterey.. The Scene
The inn is located not far from the romantic coastline and world-famous golf courses of Monterey. The property is framed by oaks, redwoods and colorful flowerbeds and a stone pathway leads to an ivy-covered, Tudor-style house. Inside, guests find an abundance of luxuries, such as a full gourmet breakfast, afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres service and in-room massage and aromatherapy.

The Details
This place feels like an elite European boutique hotel. All of the rooms have feather beds and down comforters, and little extras include chocolates, fresh fruit, cut flowers, robes and deluxe bath products. Tucked out of sight, but easy to access, are TVs, VCRs, CD players and DSL connections. Though similarly appointed in regard to sumptuousness, each of the nine rooms and one cottage is unique in decor. They share an uncluttered, romantic Victorian style. Some are small country bedrooms while others are lavish affairs, with large sitting areas, stained glass windows, French doors, whirlpool tubs and private sundecks. Regardless of size, most have lovely garden views.
