I have had the pleasure to dine at Marinus many times and each time have been rewarded with a memorable experience. Most recently in February 2006. The food, wait staff, and ambience were perfect. The only objection was the portion size for the entres on the al a carte menu were rather small. this was somewhat off set by the richness of the preperation, but for the prices they charge, they should be able to give you a little more meat. I recommend this restaurant for that special occasion. The food and atmosphere do not disappoint.
Cal Stamenov's elegant, creative fare is a perfect match for Ben Pon's Carmel Valley gem. The room is tastefully elegant, yet has a very intimate, homey feel, due mostly to the wonderful fireplace and comfortable decor. Cal's food is creative without being pretentious. His Scallops Wellington come to mind as a truly unforgetable dish. The wine list is extensive and well-presented - just what one would expect from a first-class wine country getaway.
