Editorial Review for Pann's – by Patrick Green
In Short
This classic coffee shop lies in the middle of an intersection, complete with Jetsons-like design. Golden oldies play in the clean and charming interior, which has been featured in movies like "XXX." Amicable staffers serve regulars, tourists and the occasional Hollywood star. Hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner entrees are substantial, like Dreamburgers, mac and cheese and fried chicken platter. The old-fashioned root beer floats and malts still come in silver pitchers.

After hearing about this place for a long time, we finally got up early and went to eat here one Saturday. I had the chicken and waffles. It wasn't roscoes, but it was still really good. But all around me, people were having a rough time. My girlfriend's chicken fried steak was just "ok" and she's in no rush to go back. But here's the odd part - two different people at two different tables watched helplessly as they poured salt on their food and the entire cap came off the shaker. I don't know if someone was playing a cruel joke, but I had to feel bad for those folks.

Finding an authentic diner is a little like finding a drive-in movie theatre (try the one in City of Industry)--they are incredibly difficult to come by! Pann's on La Tijera is like discovering a portal to the past where prices are still reasonable, the food is great and customer service still exists. After a warm greeting from Rena, we were escorted to our shiny red booth. A fresh coat of red paint made the restaurant sparkle as if it had been built yesterday. Ritchie Valens played on the jukebox as we placed our orders with an extremely nice and knowledgeable waitress. Pann's is rumored to have THE best fried chicken in town and it doesn't disappoint! The 1/2 chicken is enough to feed two and came with two sides, choice of bread and soup or salad. The chopped barbecue chicken on a homemade roll was to die for. An article I read said that it had started to go downhill a few years ago, but that it was back in top form--it definitely was! Treat yourself to a trip down memory lane with a visit to Pann's. It is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and will leave you craving more!
