We have always used to Love AJ Spurs. It was a great place to eat. The new problems we experienced last time: The soup that they give you comes with beans. They used to be black beans, but now now they are just mushy pinto beans. The taste gross in the soup. The other thing is they potatoes they give you. They are cooking with onions. Last time, the potatoes were just scraps and there were way more onions. Finally, the root beer float. It has been cut in size by about half. I'm very disappointed in AJ Spurs.

Buellton was a convenient stopping place on our way up the coast so we chose to stay there, also giving us the opportunity to visit Solvang. Of course thanks to "Sideways" we attempted to go to The Hitching Post restaurant but it was closed. A. J. Spurs was almost next door so went there instead. The wait was long, perhaps because the Hitching Post was closed, but after having waited for a while we asked if we could be seated in the bar and get the same menu and we could. I don't know why we were not told that before since the bar had plenty of availability. The atmosphere was typically ersatz western. The food was plentiful but mediocre. The service was average. Sure, we walked out with enough to eat, but for the price we felt that food should have been better. There must be better restaurants around there. We probably should have gone into one of the towns and tried out a restaurant there instead, which is what we will do if we stay in Buellton again.
Pros: the food was filling and not offensive
Cons: expensive for the quality of the food
