Not worth it.... Very dissapointed, waiter was ok, food was so so and the icecream was horrible & a ripoff. 2 scoop sundae with 2 toppings (very skimpy) is $6.95 the cup is tiny the whip cream is from the can you buy in a store and the icecream tastes like "Edy's" brand you buy at the supermarket. I say this b/c they brag about it being homemade. Food took a long time & icecream took longer! Couldn't get the waiter back for the check so I went to the counter to pay and they had no idea of the prices so they got a menu! Much confusion.…
The WORST!!!!. Just got back from Bollinger's and I really thought it was going to be a great dinner.....I was Wrong!!! When we got there we were the only 6 people in there. We sat down, the waiter never put the place mats down like the other table had-so there were no utensils. Ordered mozzarella sticks for the kids got them way after the adults got there soup. So when dinner came we asked for utensils, the waiter comes over and says "all of you need forks?" Huh? do you want us to eat with our hands? never came by to ask if we needed anything or refills--why should he, he already knew he was getting an 18% tip because of the type of gift card I had. When I asked for something (that was supposed to come w/meal) he tells me well we just had a big crowd and Im tired. We had to wait for about 30minutes for our check....it was the worst experience ever and the food matched it as well. The kids meal came with ice cream and I can honestly say that was the best part of the meal.…
A real malt shoppe--Bollingers.
There is a mythical place in American culture called the malt shoppe. It is where teenagers come after school to safely meet, giggle and gossip. It is where old men come to have their morning
coffee and announce their continued existence to their long time friends and neighbors.
Unfortunately, there is no such place in NYC. We are all to hurried, or to scared of perverts to allow our urban children to participate in this rite of passage. Also real estate is too valuable to allow a malt shoppe parking and the space it needs.
By accident, I stumbled across a malt shoppe; it is Bollingers in Farmingdale, NY. It is clean and perky and some of the waitresses actually have pigtails and smile. Bollingers serves burgers, ice cream, malts, egg creams and finger food. The only concession to the modern world is wraps and selection of packaged herb teas.
The food is simple, but fresh. You can actually see them cutting up your salad instead of scooping it out of a plastic bag. The servings are large and the décor is brand new 1950s!
Bollingers is not for sophisticated dining, but it is a blast from the past and it will bring a smile to your face without giving you heartburn
Lunch for two is $35 including tip.…
