treated like garbage. My wife and i wanted to get away overnight without our small child, so we decided to stay on the island and we settled on Cleggs. We opted for the late check-out the following day so we could take the beach in before heading home.In the morning of our last day we were told we could not check out late( even though we paid for it the day prior and was told that there was no record that we even paid for the late check-out. ( which we did and i had receipt showing so). After we said we will check out early and packed our bags and headed to the office to a young women who was in no way able to talk to people, she left to get a i think manager, i say think because she was just as rude and unpolished. Instead of coming in and apologizing for the mistake, immediately gives us an attitude as if it was our fault for we were given a late checkout. everything about my experience there was bad. The rooms , the cleanliness and the manager makes the Cleggs most undesireable

Insect Bites are free.... I stayed here this past weekend in one if the "suite" rooms so we had our own bathroom which had a huge hole in the wall about 20 mosquitos at a time in the bathroom which also went out to the sleeping area...I sprayed myself with OFF before going to bed and even wore longer shorts to sleep and woke up with both my legs covered in red dotted bites..some mosquito bites and some look like gnat bites...I even had 2 on my face...I will never stay there again. I am covered with insect bites, the paint is peeling, holes in the walls, the light shines right through, no TV/radio/clock...

They ran out of beach chairs that they say they supply you.

If you are going to spend so much money (250 a night) I say stay somewhere else, it is NOT worth the BITES!!

Avoid Clegg's if you want a clean room. I stayed at Clegg's with my son for 4 days and the room had mosquitoes in it, a big gash/hole under the sink about a foot wide and long--I was afraid of what might come out of the hole at night, the room had holes on the walls and mold--I would not recommend it, I stayed in the studio which was supposed to be better than the regular rooms, would not go back there again!!!

Right at the center of Fire Island nightlife.. The Scene
Location, location, location. This hotel boasts one of the best, just a stumble from the ferry, 100 feet from the bay and smack in the midst of the bars, restaurants, and shops on Bay Walk. This friendly establishment was built in 1946, making it one of the oldest hotels on the island.

The Details
The hotel is somewhere between a rambling house and a youth hostel. The owners have painted the inside ocean blue, and rooms come in all sizes and configurations. Double and triple guest rooms share four clean bathrooms with skylights. The studio "apartments" come with garden or ocean views and have private baths and sleep four. Kids stay free, but know that the late-night din from CJ's bar across the street doesn't let up until 4 in the morning.

Like your old college dorm room, but at the beach. This place is a decent place to stay provided the weather is nice and you don't need or wish to be inside; the accommodations are akin to what you would find in an aged college dorm room. The beds are adequate; the dressers are adequate; the air conditioners are adequate. There are absolutely no perks. The shared bathrooms (for the non-suite units) are clean; the staff is nice; they have chairs and umbrellas which they allow you to take to the beach. Regarding the location, you are just steps from the ferry and a couple of blocks from the beach. The fri-sat rates are awfully high; it's a better value sun nights and during the week. Would I stay here again? Yes. It's like the mastercard commercial: the value in being able to stay over in fire island on a nice weekend - priceless.
