Editorial Review for B-Bar & Grill – by Karen Hudes
The Scene
Airy and refined, this bar and restaurant had its heyday in the late '90s and still draws celebrities on occasion for outdoor soirees. Mostly, though, it hosts a well-dressed, well-behaved clientele from the city and its outskirts. The bar's most popular night is Tuesday, when the long-running Beige party attracts a handsome, fashionable gay crowd.
The Draw
Fifties diner booths and loungey nooks fill the interior, but the hottest place to sit is the walled-in patio sparkling with tiny lights--a popular summertime setting for groups and private parties. The bar offers a martini list that includes watermelon, apple and lychee flavors, but it's not always fully stocked, and the blends aren't entirely sophisticated; the ginger martini is somewhat overwhelmed by vodka as its sole base.

Insider Tips
Where to SitSince a quarter of the outdoor space is smoker-friendly, you may be able to nab a smoking table--if you're quick. Table service for drinks on the patio is available at no extra charge.
Know Before You GoThe kitchen stays open until 1am, but the bar hours change depending on the season.

Coming from California where we are about the outdoors, I love the fact that B-Bar is a block long and is reeeeally a patio bar. Love the open space, the staff is friendly, and the menu and drinks offered are exactly what you want on a nice, warm, afternoon in the city. I am not sure what the bad reviews are all about, maybe the B&T crowd are a bit offended by a place that has been around long enough [geez - guessing that means they might know what they are doing?] to enforce an anti-ghetto look and maintain some civility. Thanks.
Pros: space. lots of open space. and great staff.
Cons: hmm. the B&T crowd?

Aside from the terrible service and overpriced, watered down drinks, the place is filthy, rodents were running around all over the outside patio, and the management is retarded. My friends and I ordered food from their after hours menu consisting of pizza and finger foods. In the bottom of our popcorn shrimp plate was a half melted, dirty birthday candle, and a small piece of dirty paper. It looked as if they served me this dish directly from the garbage. I addressed my server with the problem and she quickly scurried away and never returned. I addressed another server and he told me it wasn't his problem because it wasn't his table. I walked over to the bar to where what looked like the manager, drinking shots with the bartender and a few of the waitresses. He looked underaged and dressed as if he was wearing his father's unfitted suit. He was obviously drunk. I told him about the garbage in my food. He looked really annoyed by me and asked me what I wanted him to do about it. At that point I wasn't sure what I wanted him to do about it, my friends and I didn't want to eat anything that came out of that kitchen. I told him this, he asked me where I was sitting, so I pointed to the table where my friends were. He walked away into the kitchen, came back, and handed me our check with the popcorn shrimp removed, insinuating for us to leave, as if we were terrible customers. I was really shocked. I thought I was very polite in asking for help. I've served tables in NYC for 5 years, and cannot stand annoying customers, and tried my best not to be one, BUT COME ON! THERE WAS GARBAGE IN MY FOOD! I went back to the table, and finished my terrible mojito and left the money and tip on the table. Before we left, my friend used the restroom and came back to tell us that he saw the underaged manager blatantly snorting questionable substances into his nose in the men's room with one of the bartenders. I'll never go back, and you should never go, ever.
Pros: Outside drinking/smoking
Cons: Bad service, food, management, clientele, and cocktails.
