Why I'll Never Go Back. My husband and I were very displeased. Beware that reservations using their 1-800 number-you will not be speaking to a State Line representative but rather a promotions company. Person who took my reservation did not speak English well and when we finally were able to speak with someone who understood our request, we discovered that our suite did not have Jacuzzi tub we requested, and the only available was their Luxury Suite priced at $200 a night. The amenities advertised either didnt function properly or were not even there (no hair dryer, no iron, stereo with no speakers, no hot water in the morning, poor lighting, not enough towels, etc. etc.). We complained to the front desk when we checked out. This proved to be a good idea because they ended up not charging us for the room.

An oasis in the desert for Salt Lake fun-seekers.. The Scene
As you drive in from Utah, the State Line is on the left--the hotel with the giant, neon cowboy pointing at it. Decorated in Southwestern mission style, it's one of the prettier hotels on the strip. The central winding staircase will take you to the casino level where you'll find a garden-like atrium. A skywalk connects the building to its sister hotel/casino, Silver Smith.

The Hotel
Great deals on lodging during the week on everything from standard rooms to fancy suites. Amenities include a fitness center, spa and massage, outdoor swimming pool, hot tub, gift shop, cable TV and in-room movies. The Bonneville Buffet offers dinner with all the fixings every night of the week. On weekend nights, The Salt Cellar is open, offering fine dining and a menu of mostly steak and seafood specialties. Anna's 24-hour cafe serves breakfast, sandwiches and salads as well as steak and lobster from 12pm to 11pm.

It ain't Vegas. I prefer gambling over at Stateline, but staying across the street at the Silver Smith. Both places get a little more fancied up all the time. Just don't expect a Vegas-style atmosphere -- and you'll be pleased. Wendover is a nice break from Salt Lake -- gamble 'til you drop, with the free drinks flowing.
