Very Good Mexican Food, Minor Menu Oddity.
I passed through Silver City recently on a hiking vacation, and picked up on Jalisco through some on-line sources. It was a Saturday night, and relatively crowded, but I was given an accurate time
for a table, and the waiting room was quite comfortable. Later on, as I left, the crowd was rather larger, and extended out onto the street. The menu has a pretty wide range of items on it, the odd limitation I mention being that the only meats on the menu are beef and chicken. There are some seafood items, but no pork.
The burritos available are beef, bean, or beef/bean combo (combined within each burrito), with a choice of red or green chili on top. I ordered the beef/bean combo with green chili. The burritos are extremely good. The sauce was very rich and flavorful, delicate more than merely hot and spicy. The salad is crisp and fresh.
The service is friendly and efficient, even though the staff were working rather hard. The rooms are pretty: high ceilings with fans, dark-painted walls, lots of space between the tables. I applaud the management for not simply cramming in more tables which they could easily have filled on this weekend night.
Very good food, pleasant surroundings, good service. Just be aware that Jalisco is not open on Sundays (at least in March, when I visited).…
The original, and still the best. Jalisco is one of Silver City's main attractions, and for good reason. The food is outstanding. Traditional Mexico combined with the flare of modern touches in a great atmosphere. Most fridays and saturdays, the restaurant could serve twice as many people as they do if they had more room; as it is they have taken over almost an entire block of spaces. Don't miss this one!!…
