Good food – Nice place to go for a good meal at a reasonable price. My salad and the bread was good. My steak not so hot, but my wife had the ribs and they were flavorful and they gave a nice serving.
very nice experience overall - good food, good value – visited there right after graduation close by, got there ahead of the crowd so had a nice outdoor seat, waiter was young and didn't know much but was pleasant and tried to be attentive, too many tables per server. Wine list was good but not great but had several bottles priced below $40 so good value for the budget concious. Appetizer was delicious and filling, we were hungry after skipping lunch. Wine by the glass was tiny servings so I would opt for a bottle or stick to beer. Entrees were timely and well prepared and delicious, the alfredo sauce was not very rich but the chicken and pasta were well done, the chicken parmesan was very tasty and filling, this would be a good meal for 2 to share if average hunger, the steak was ok, choice cut nicely cooked, served with onion crisps, good for this price. This is a good bridge restaurant between nice sit down and pub food, they do both pretty well, although the pub food looked great as it went by.
Rafferty's Brunch Used to be the Best – I went to Rutgers in New Brunswick for 4 years and Rafferty's Brunch was my favorite Sunday ritual.
There were always so many different options from a carving station, tradititional breakfast foods, italian antipasto, cold seafood, king crab legs, desserts and unlimited drink selections that come all you can eat/drink for under $20.
Great value, great food and relaxed atmoshphere with really neat decor.
I recently went back to Rafferty's for Sunday brunch after having graduated from Rutgers 2 years ago. I'd been craving their selection. I must say, I was less than impressed. They still had the same great selection, but the food quality had gone down significantly.
I guess it's the recession, everyone is cutting costs wherever they can. It was quite obvious that they'd been using much lower grade foods. While I'm not planning on going back anytime soon, I'll be the first in line to go back once they switch back to the high quality, gourmet foods Rafferty's is known for.
I attended a lunch party here and was violently ill afterwards. 4 out of 5 other people I knew who attended the same party had the same exact illness. None of us were able to go to work, all sick as dogs. I will leave it at that to avoid being graphic. Dine at your own risk.
Good Food, Fast service, Great Atmosphere – In town for training, Old Man Rafferty's was recommended to me by a fellow trainee. It was a short walk from my hotel (Hyatt), and since it was only me, and it was a Monday, I was seated promptly. The menu was interesting because the desserts were listed first (and I would have had one if I wasn't so stuffed!) Even though I was seated in the very full bar area, the waiter was very attentive, and checked on me often. I ordered the calamari, and three cheese ravioli. The serving size of calamari was more than generous, and the dipping sauces were extremely good. The ravioli was some of the best I've ever had. I saw many different people there, from a group that had just gotten off work, a college group having a birthday dinner, and a family with elementary-age children. The decor was sharp and the lighting intimate, but the restaurant is a bit loud if you're looking for a romantic place, mostly because it's so popular.
Just Right... – This is the type of place where you can go casual with some friends, bring the kids, or dress up and make it a special dinner for two. The food is so well-prepared that you couldn't go wrong with any dish. Great wines and drinks as well. I recommend: Appetizer - Tomato-Basil Soup, Salad - Grilled Steak Salad, Steak - Hanger Steak, Dessert - Any ^_^
Start with Dessert – Tempting and delicions, this is a great place for a drink or dessert and coffee. The food is good standard American fair, for lunch and dinner, byt the lighting is a little dark and the wait can be unbearable on the weekends
Save Room for Dessert! – OMR is my favorite restuarant -- hands down! The location is great, the food is incredible, and the desserts are awesome!
Even if you are not a "dessert person" you have to save room for dessert at OMR! They are not to be missed! They are made in house, and the selection changes every day.
Excellent !! – Everytime I come here, I have a great meal! It's a perfect place to go before a night out with friends. The chicken parm. is excellent!
yum. prime rib sandwhich – i always get the smothered steak sandwhich which is a slice of prime rib with sauteed mushrooms and onions with cheese. Its soooo good. i like it medium rare and they always cook it perfectly.
their cheesecakes are also yummy.
if you parked in the parking lot nearby, they validate parking for 1 hour. dinner will usually take longer than this but one extra hour of parking is only $1.25 anyways so its not too bad. parking in the parking lot is a lot easier than finding parking on the street and the lots are not far away.
it sometimes gets very crowded but they have expanded and the wait is not as bad as it used to be.
