whatever happened to the original chef's of sunset bay? I worked for them, the exec, and sous chef, for two summers 2002, 2003
No Longer Sunset Bay, now COCONUT COVE w/NEW owners – Sadly when you google and pull up reviews for the new Coconut Cove Entertainment Complex, you also pull up the reviews for the former Sunset Bay. I decided to be proactive and start a new yelp page for Coconut Cove, especially because Sunset Bay's food and service got such a bad rap towrds the end.
Over the winter Sunset Bay was sold to owners who completely gutted and revamped the place. This MEmorial Day Weekend was their preview opening. The place will be completely open for business at the end of June, with the entire property being at 100%. All I can say is this place has amazing potential! It was just featured on Fox 29 News. The owners put over 3 million into revamping the place. This will be the next Secrets. The complex also has a more formal restaurant, as well as multiple bars, beach service, sand dancing, live entertainment, incredible food and drinks, and indoor nightlife. No doubt. It is family friendly during the day, and awesome night life for adults in the evening.
Think of Key West at Sunset in MAllory Square. The views of sunset here are amazing. This place oozes caribbean charm. So forget the old reviews and look at everything from Memorial Day Weekend 2011 on!
Oh and look for bartender Andrew, he is fantastic!
Key West-like atmosphere – This is one of my favorite restaurants down the shore. It looks like nothing special on the outside but once you walk in, you are transformed into a "Key West-like" atmosphere. There are 2 parts to the restaurant - the restaurant itself and the bar/cafe. The cafe serves sandwiches and bar food which is good and cheap and the restaurant serves more expensive food. There are no floors- your walking on sand and wooden planks which is really cool. It is right on the water which makes for a wonderful view - especially at sunset. It does get very crowded so expect to wait for a little or make reservations.
