The Scene – Featuring mountain vistas, lots of fresh air and views of the Asheville skyline, this resort redefines the meaning of Southern comfort. It offers every activity you can think of, from golf, tennis and swimming to racquetball, aerobics and treatments at its acclaimed 40,000-square-foot spa. – – The Details – The property is comprised of the Historic Main Inn, the Sammons and Vanderbilt Contemporary Wings and The Cottage. Accommodations include oversized Club Floor rooms and overlook either the Blue Ridge Mountains, the golf course or town. For corporate…

Editor's Tips

Look Good:
Book a treatment to gain access to the spa facilities; without an appointment, hotel guests may use the spa for a fee, but only on limited days and times.
Save Money:
Visit during value season, January-March, when room rates are at their lowest. During all seasons, check the web site for packages that mix spa treatments or golf with lodging.
Know Before You Go:
Make restaurant reservations when booking a room, since they fill up quickly. For fantastic mountain views and lavish buffets, opt for the Blue Ridge Dining Room.
Know Before You Go:
Legend has it that a ghost (known as the Pink Lady) haunts this old stone hotel overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Really bad experience

by Andrewtj

Started out great with the bell hop and the elevator servicers. I will also say that the hotel is very pretty.

Outside of that had a bad experience. For one did not think there was a whole lot to do and you have to pay $80 per person to use the pool for a day that they advertise to you in the TV. Of course you don't find out till you get there about the charge.

In addition, one of the night my fiancee was literally stalked and harassed by the hotel staff. I ended up with her crying uncontrollably in the hotel room on out first night. Turn and run from this place people...

  • Pros: Was pretty
  • Cons: Was stalked and harassed by staff

OK Rooms, but Great Spa

by trvlthwrld

I am a regular guest at the Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, and Aman properties and without the amazing spa this resort would only be on the map due to it's previous owners, the Vanderbilts. The hotel has seen better days and we were very unimpressed with the room's size and quality. The guests at this establishment are mainly retired citizens and the staff pays more attention to the surnames of their guests than their comfort. We decided to visit the Piano Bar in the evening where the music consisted of Elton John classics and other oldies. The drinks weren't well mixed and it took a half hour for a hostess to come to the table. There are much nicer properties nearby and if you want a true five star resort, stay at the Inn on the Biltmore.

On the other hand, although the spa has exhorbitant prices, the treatments are first-class. If you decide to go, make sure you arrive at least an hour and a half early so you can enjoy their many pools and waterfalls.

I would recommend the spa due to it's quality of treatments, but I would not return to or recommend the hotel.

  • Pros: Excellent Spa Treatments
  • Cons: Poor Quality Rooms; Overpriced and Stuffy

Fantastic

by apexron

My wife and I treated our family to the "Thanksgiving Package", 5 adults and 2 children. This is NOT Motel 6. Words could not possibly be sufficient to describe the experience. I have never seen so many happy hotel employees in my life. We were treated like royalty. The restaurants were all fantastic as was the entertainment. Though I have never been on a cruise, based on the description of cruise experiences from others this is like being on a cruise without the ocean. Even with the economy the way it is, the place was booked, yet plenty of room to move around. You must try this place, but make sure that it is for more than one night. We enjoyed four nights and probably would have stayed for longer where it not for having to go back to work.

  • Pros: Parking at room level

Grove Park Inn Review

by peggurney

I stay at The Grove Park Inn (usually 2-5 days) as an ocassional stress-free get-away. The service and accomodations are stellar and the serene ambiance meets my needs for recouping from life's daily challenges. The staff are very serious in assuring their guests are well-cared for and often go beyond the call of duty.

Sincerely,

Peg Gurney
