Friends of ours recommended Salsa's in Asheville during our visit to the Carolinas. We did not get there until minutes before the 3 p.m. lunch closing time. There was another couple also wanting to dine there per their friends' recommendations as well. The staff said they would be closing but because we had come from afar, agreed to stay open to serve us. What a treat as the food was so worth it - healthy, tasty, veggie and non veggie options. I had the Veggie Plato which had enough food for 2 people and my husband had the Salmon Quesadillas. My dish had a tamale, lots of sauteed veggies, avocado with green salsa, black beans, salad, sweet potato, grilled tofu with cheese and all topped with a delicious sauce. The salmon quesadilla had fillet size pieces and not just a few flakes of fish, as one would expect. It came on top of a pile of veggies and beans and was simply delicious. The plates were stacked high in beautiful presentations. The couple who also dined there were quite happy they stayed open - they had an appetizer and shared the salmon quesadilla. Great service, tasty delicious food at very reasonable prices. There are lots of interesting restaurants in Asheville, but definitely eat at Salsa's!

My family and I ate at this restaurant last night. It was highly recommended by a friend. We recieved poor service from our waitor who was not proffesional to say the least. The food was not that good, we ordered water to drink, and that's what we got, warm tap water with no ice. We left 4 full plates of food on the table and had to go to McDonalds afterwards to get food that we could eat. When we were ready to go we paid our bill $66.05. We walked out into the street and our waitor walks out behind me and yells to me. "Hey, are you trying to make a Point!" I said excuse me, A point about what? He yells, " MY Tip" "You didn't leave me a tip!" My reply to him was, that if would go to the table where we were supposed to be getting service, he would find his 10% Tip. and if i wanted to make a point I would go back in and remove his tip from the table. I would not recommend this place to anyone as long as that waitor is working there. IF you do eat there, watch out for the skinny greasy looking waitor that has a tatoo on his forearm. I do regret that i didn't get his name.

I lived in Asheville until 2000 and Salsa's was always my favorite restaurant. I return to Asheville every year and Salsa's is always the one place I am sure to visit. Two weeks ago my husband and I had lunch there and were extremely disappointed. We ordered the chicken nachos which normally are huge and piled high fresh tortilla, yucca, and taro chips, and unusual ingredients with eclectic and exotic flavors. What we got this time was a sad plate of nearly toppingless chips that were too big to eat without breaking up. The chicken looked like the precooked steamed chicken from Quiznos and was completely void of flavor. There was a glop of pureed black beans, a small amount of shredded cheddar cheese (usually there was goat cheese or monterray jack, etc), and two small dollops of salsa. The salsa did taste like what I remembered but there was so little of it we mostly ended up eating plain chips. Plus the nachos were $9! Normally that would have been a deal but this was awful. We had planned to order entrees as well but after the poor appetizer and the grumpy waitress we sadly paid our bill and left. I am terribly disappointed and don't plan on returning. What happened? I took a cooking class once with the owner (around 2000) and he prided himself on locally grown ingredients from seeds he had brought back from his native country. These nachos didn't contain a trace of anything fresh aside from the tiny bit of salsa. I hope they go back to the way things used to be or that this was simply a VERY off day for them.
