Get the soup. The Rundown Cafe is a nice, little restaurant. Whatever you do, make sure you come here and get their Rundown soup. It is delicious. It's fishy, and sweet and all around excellent.
My favortie place in the Outer Banks. We have vacationed in the Outer Banks for since i was 6 years old (21 years now), and of all the restaurants and all the places that I have gone to eat--The Rundown is my absolute favorite!! The atmosphere is so chill, and the food is amazing. I have never had anything that I didnt LOVE...however, my all time favorite is the rundown, its probably the best soup/bisque I have ever had. Great service, to die for salads !. For 3 years in a row we have eaten at Rundown. We love the casual atmosphere, and love eating upstairs to view the ocean and feel the breeze! The salads with grilled tuna or chicken on skewers are wonderful, and the Journey's End dressing and homemade Ginger Vinagrette are soooooo good. Best of the Outer Banks.
The Rundown Cafe has been a local's favorite for many years. It has a pacific rim/caribbean/seafood based menu, but there are plenty of meals for "American" tastes as well. Prices are excellent
(entrees top out at about $16, and the tuna burrito is a serious bargain at about $7), the ambience is friendly and the beers are cold. Make sure to meet Mike, the hard working owner. The specials of the day always feature the best of local seafood. You will find the Rundown near the Kitty Hawk pier. I have been to this place more than 50 times over the years, and it is by far and away my favorite OBX restaurant. If you are just visiting, or an Outer Banks regular, do yourself a favor and try the Rundown Cafe!
