The Scene – The mantra of every real-estate agent--"location, location, location"--receives its due at this cliff-hugging spot about 20 miles north of Big Sur proper. It's worth the drive just to gaze in wonder at the seascape below the restaurant's oceanside terrace. Large wooden tables, some with umbrella awnings, offer cozy spots in the sun or shade; you'll look blissful in the pictures that one of the friendly staffers will snap for you. – – The Food – Rocky Point's menu offers a selection of mesquite-flavored steaks and fish barbecued over hardwood charcoal, from…

Delicious, But Expensive, Food
by Jennifer Yen at Citysearch
Okay, let's be frank. This place has a great location. You can sit by the window and look out over the rocks right to the ocean. I come here every now and again for special occasions. I will say: my favorite time going there was when it there was a ton of lightning. You could sit by the window while eating and watch the lightning over the ocean. It was spectacular. Their food is yummy, but be prepared to spend a lot for dinner. That's why I only come here for special occasions. 50% of the cost is basically paying for the view.
- Pros: Great view out the window, cool atmosphere, good food
- Cons: Expensive
Best View in Town!
by billkcarmel at Citysearch
I live in Carmel and like to take my friends, family and out of town visitors to Rocky Point for either lunch or dinner. The drive takes me 20 minutes from home, it's beautiful along the coast, and I don't have to worry about parking. Lunch on the terrace is great, but the service can be slow (I don't care, I don't want to be rushed, and I like to enjoy my meal, the view and my company). For dinner I have a drink outside first, then get my window table and order the jumbo prawn dinner with salad and cheese bread and a huge potato at $38. I always ask for Dieter, he is a waiter who has been there for almost 40 years. They have floodlights and the whole bay is lit up when it gets dark outside. None of the other places on the coast have that!
- Pros: view, food, ambience, parking
- Cons: slow service
Awesome view
by lkcoops at Citysearch
The view is breathtaking. The food was OK, but nothing special. Service was good. It is a little difficult to find only because there are no signs between Carmel and the restaurant and just when you ready to turn around because you think you missed it, it turns out you needed to go just a little further. Very clean and they do not rush you. Attire is very casual.
- Pros: View, view, view
- Cons: OK food, a bit expensive
best view of sunset if not fogged in
by lovecarmelbythesea at Citysearch
Wonderful place for drinks and appetizers. Wonderful sunsets if not fogged in. Which happens regularly. Our waiter we request if he is there. Very attentive and really nice. Dinner is not even average. Kind of not good. Breakfast was the best meal we have had there. Girls from Texas
- Pros: parking, ambience, service
- Cons: food not worth the price.
Terrible Service
by julieschwab at Citysearch
The service at this restaurant prompted me to write a review - it was the WORST I have ever experienced. $160 for dinner (for 2), food was served cold and took 45 minutes to be delivered to our table by our rude waitress (took longer than that to even get her attention to order). I watched as they dusted off the table linens from the last guest before seating new guests - GROSS. The only thing this restaurant has going for it is the view. I would not recommend eating there - you can enjoy the view by having a drink in the bar - instead of wasting your money on a bad meal with bad service. We emailed the manager Horst requesting a partial refund for the uncooked, cold steak they served us - and only received excuses "we were busy that night with regulars".
I can understand a busy night - but to get this type of response from the manager indicates how this restaurant feels about customer satisfaction - THEY DO NOT CARE! There are MANY much nicer restaurants in Carmel for these prices!
- Pros: View
- Cons: Everything Else
