Tips for Banfield Pet Hospital

Best Vet Care - EVER. In my life, my pets are my furry children. My husband and I don't plan on having children, therefore, our pets are our children. We make sure that they have the best - the healthiest food, the best toys, and the best healthcare.

We have the banfield wellness plans on all four of our furry children. We have been through simple ilnesses like stomach issues and major issues with spinal surgery and other animal attacks.

I have had pets all of my life, and never have I experienced the same unparalled care as I have experienced with Banfield Pet Hospital in Madison.

Their staff is 100% amazing. They give you price estimates before they start treatment plans and don't try to do everything at once if you are on a budget. They take you step-by-step through all of the care processes and you are in control of what should be done and not be done.

Without Banfield Pet Hospital in Madison, we surely would have lost 2 of our furry children. Thanks to them and their amazing, loving care of my children they are still alive and well today.

I had resuced a 5th animal about a year ago who was on the brink of death. I placed her on the Banfield Wellness plan, fully understanding that if she passed before the year that I would be responsible for the rest of the year. Their banfield wellness plans are like getting great care and spreading the cost over the year. This was fully explained every time I signed each contract for each of my pets when adding them to the plan.

They helped me through the process of keeping the poor cat as comfortable as could be until it was time for her to pass away. They were so comforting during the process when we had to put the poor thing to sleep.

I would recommend Banfield Pet Hospital in Madison 100%. I don't understand the other posts that give 1 star as I have never had anything but the TOP care over the many years that they have taken care of my furry children.

Truly - if you need care of your pets - run to them, don't walk. As they will help you every step of the way.

absurd pet care. In one month of taking my cat to this place I racked up 1000. My cat is urinating all over the house and he had blood in his urine. To have a UTI, I was told the cat would have crystals in the urine. My cat did not. However, they treated my cat for a UTI. Along with $30 UTI cat food. There is absolutely no change, except I am $1,000.00 out of pocket.

I am expecting a child so I obviously cannot have a cat in my house that urinates on everything. I am having to let my mother take my cat 3 hours away, to take him to a new vet. I have had my cat for 8 years.

After leaving on vacation, my brother was supposed to come and watch my cat, but had gotten stranded 3 hours away due to the flood. By the time we got back to the house, the medicine was expired. After trying to get back to the vet to re-treat my cat for a UTI (that he obviously did not have), the vet said to me, "well since you can't remember to give your cat the medicine we give you, there is a shot that we can give them. It is $30 more"

I have NEVER in my life been so offended.

The vet techs were always nice and tried their best to be accommodating.

I think I could have done a better job diagnosing my cats problems.

Sub-par care from ever-changing vets and techs. When I moved to the Hendersonville, TN area in January 2007, Banfield was a pretty great veterinary clinic for simple care. Their insurance plan was wonderful and came in handy with our dog and cat.

HOWEVER in the past year and a half, their quality of care has plummeted. Whenever I go in, there are different veterinarians and vet-techs.

My first bad experience was when my 2-year-old cat was sick. They examined her and determined it was an infection and sent me home with antibiotics. Two days later (a Saturday evening), I was at the all-night emergency vet with a dying cat in my arms... and they were unable to save her. Banfield had basically patted me on the head and said it was nothing to worry about and sent me on my way. Going back through the papers from that last visit, they hadn't even bothered to do bloodwork on her -- the only notation was that they listened to her stomach and it was "gurgling". I felt partially responsible that I hadn't DEMANDED a more thorough examination - but at the same time, I expected the vet knew what he was doing and when they were confident she'd be OK, I felt like I could trust them.

After she died, I tried to cancel the pet insurance I had through them for my dog and my now-deceased cat. They wouldn't let me cancel EITHER insurance plan! The dog, I understand. However, I was told I'd either have to let the insurance I'd carried on the (dead!) cat run out for the year contract or I'd have to back-pay all the discounted services I'd received already that year. (Which would have been several hundred dollars more than continuing to pay for insurance on a dead cat for 4 more months!) I found that just plain SICK. However -- this reflects on Banfield CORPORATE, not this specific branch.

Finally, as I said, my dog still has insurance through them (it runs out in December and clearly I will NOT be renewing). She was due for a checkup and teeth cleaning. Had she been SICK I'd have rushed her to our NEW vet, but I thought that for a simple check up and teeth-cleaning I may as well take advantage of the insurance that I'm stuck paying $24/mo for.

I took the dog in and get a call a few hours later saying that they can't get a catheter in her and that she keeps ripping it out (which she's never done before) so they'll be unable to clean her teeth. Ok, FINE. I don't really care. I go pick her up, and the poor dog is TERRIFIED. She's never had a bad vet-experience before but she's just not herself.

... Needless to say, I'm NEVER taking her back there for so much as a toenail clipping. I don't care if I had to pay insurance for the rest of forever, I'd never USE it ever again. Truly if you love your pets, don't take them here.
