great food. I drive by 3 mexican restaurants on the way to El Sombrero. On Friday nights there is about a 10 min wait. So if it is soooo bad, why is there a wait for tables? I went last night and the chips where HOT. I always see friends from church and teachers from my son school. Get the guacamole casado . Great food!
Bad Food, Too Expensive. We had eaten at this place once and it was ok. Just ok. We went back maybe a month later and it was terrible! Quite possibly the worst Mexican food I have ever had and that includes Taco Bell. I ended up awake at 3 a.m. with a nice bout of food poisoning from this place. The service was pretty awful too. Slow as Christmas and serveral times all 4 of us at our table were out of drinks for at least 5 -10 minutes. We found a hair in our bowl of salsa also. Don't go here if you want quality food that won't make you violently ill!
Cafeteria Mexican food.
So, yet another "Mexican" place in Nashville. I'm not sure how any of them are any different from each-other. Las Palmas, La Hacienda, El Sombrero, Tacos y Mariscos Lopez. It's all the same slop:
1) Government cheeze whiz
2) "Salsa" that's pureed canned tomatoes
3) Every meat product tastes like fajitas
4) Orange rice
5) Brown beans
6) Wet lettuce that serves as a bed for guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, radishes, etc.
7) Giant margaritas so you forget the fact that you're not eating real Mexican food.
I've spent a good deal of time in Mexico, and these restaurants do not serve anything close to what Mexicans serve/eat. I think that Las Palmas made the model, and everyone else followed suit with the same, bland food.
For example, what do you think of when you think of Mexican food? Do you think of hard-shell tacos with ground beef? If so, then this is the place for you.
If on the other hand, you think of delicious tacos al pastor with fresh lime, onion, cilantro and pineapple, then go somewhere else. There's nothing authentic about this place. It's not Mexican, it's not Tex-Mex. It's what your high school cafeteria would serve if they served Mexican food.
Good food and nice staff. Good Mexican food at a fair price. I will continue to eat here. Much better than the Mexican further south on Nolensville Road.
Great for chicken enchaladas, but chips are a bit stale. I like this place because my favorite mexican food is chicken enchiladas. I also had their strawberry "margarita," more like a slushy, which was very tasty. The serving was substantial for a reasonable price. I have mixed feelings about their stale chips. I love chips and salsa, but stale chips mean I eat a whole lot less (better for my waistline.)
