Where the locals go.
Every city has its own neat little restaurant that only the locals know about. In Jackson, it is Walker's. Walker's has a style all its own. It's a great place to bring a date, the atmosphere is romantic, yet lively, and not too fussy. Ask for a booth and you'll never even notice the other diners. Reservations are a must on the weekends, and recommended during the week. Call early in the day too because there is limited seating and they fill up fast! The food is out of this world. My favorites are the soft shell crabs, the barbeque oysters, and the cheddar bacon mash. The soft shell crabs are HUGE, the biggest I have ever seen and I've eaten a lot of crabs! The dinner portion is two, which for me is just too much, so I usually order the appetizer portion (one crab) and add a side dish. The barbeque oysters are divine. The oysters are seasoned and lightly breaded and each has brie cheese melted on the top. They literally melt in your mouth. When I get a taste for them, there is nothing else that will satisfy my taste buds. The cheddar bacon mash is by far my favorite side dish, although I am usually too full to eat it. Fortunately it reheats well and makes a great lunch the next day.
Walker's also serves lunch, usually there is a home cooked meal choice in addition to the regular lunch menu. The cornbread salad is always a must have for me.
And now I have made myself hungry!

My favorite. This is my favorite restaurant in Jackson! Everything on the menu is fabulous, the service is great, and the atmosphere (especially in the original part) is a lot of fun.

A little NYC in Jackson. Love this restaurant. It's different than any other restaurant in the area. Lots of charm and character unlike the chain-feel of the bigger restaurants. Great food with an innovative twist. Reminds me of a restaurant that you would find in NYC. It is by far my favorite restaurant in the area.
